Title: Ziggurat
Genre: Action, Indie, RPG, Early Access
Developer: Milkstone Studios
Publisher: Milkstone Studios
Release Date: 14 Aug 2014
Are you ready to enter the Ziggurat?
Become a neophyte sorcerer, and get ready for your rite of passage: Enter the labyrinth and face dangerous challenges to prove your worth and become a powerful wizard!
Ziggurat is a dungeon crawling FPS, with procedurally generated scenarios and encounters. You'll face dozens of treacherous enemies while you find new and powerful spells, and learn helpful perks in your quest to overcome this deadly test.
Fight allmighty bosses, get through rooms filled with traps, and treasures that may help you in your journey... Each game is a whole new experience!
The game features a dark fantasy setting, inspired in the classic games Heretic/Hexen, with original gameplay mechanics and unlockable weapons/perks that enhance replayability.
How is it played?
Unlike most Roguelikes, on Ziggurat your combat skills will be the most important asset to keep advancing. Leveling up and random generated content is there to increase variety and make each game different, not to make the game a roll dice or an unbearable grind.
Most perks are designed to change the way you have to play or the weapons you'll want to use. Do you want more speed in exchange for less health, or maybe is better to have mana regeneration? Increase drop rate, or refill ammo here and now? No number game here, simple and direct choices.
We've also ensured that, as a proper FPS game, the experience is quick and direct. There's no inventory to manage or the need to compare two almost equal item drops, just weapon selection, and mana/health are usually the bargaining chip.
I can see some potential in the title. Might become a little boring and repetitive though, hard to make a arena based shooter (painkiller style) without the pacing being a little bit off.

Looks good enough to try at a decent sale price. Not going to get too hyped about it since most of the recent procedurally generated FPS games were a bit underwhelming. However, I'm adding this to my wishlist since the above gameplay video had a bit of Hexen/Heretic vibe that I welcome Thanks for sharing.
Ziggurat seems GREAT so far! Granted I'm only a couple of levels in, but something about the formula just clicks and ends up being really fun I'm not keen on the fact that some enemies/bosses have homing attacks, I think that - in a game with limited health reserves and permadeath - it's an enormously unfair aspect to the combat.
Yeah but as far as I remember heretic had secrets. Will this game with procedurally generated scenarios and encounters have secrets? I remember it was fun finding hidden stash here and there.
Oh, and some enemies are just...stupid .. like these flesh eating carrots
Sadly no, this isn't on the same level as Heretic. Small maps (wellllll, small compared to Heretic/Hexen) and no secrets, just randomised spell locations. It's a damned fun game but we'll have to keep waiting for our next-gen Heretic -- like the upcoming Hellraid.
- No secrets.
- Often, all the enemies know your location every time you enters a room.
- The level design is somewhat a 2-D maze-like, there is no verticality.
But the game has a good take on the Heretic setting.
started plaing today, its pretty addictive. Already got 4 hours in.
there are 5 levels, I managed to get to the last level, and then one room the random generator threw at me was insanely unfair, pretty much a straight corridor with a huge staircase in the middle and 2 trenches on each side, and on the other side of the room were shamans that spawn enemies.
Difficulty settings and characters are locked behind different goals, like kill 400 skeletons, or something similar. So far I unlocked one additional mage, which seems a lot better than the default guy. her main weapon has double the ammo, and that's the gun that recharges ammo and you end up using the most.
Game uses unity engine and he room generator is not very good. lots of repetition and awkward design.
But overall the game is very addictive due to constant leveling up, variety of weapons, passive upgrades and a nice difficulty.
So far so good. They did implement a save system so the game actually saves everytime you clear a stage/floor (you can quit and resume from the following stage).
They added easy, medium, hard difficulty, so I won't die everytime on the last stage

I was only able to beat the game once on normal, with the bald chick. She is a bit OP compared to other characters.
I unlocked 2 more since, the sorcerer and an acrobat. Sorcerer is extremely hard to play, I can't even reach the third floor.

I made a little gameplay vid. Wasn't using shadow play but afterburner, so the framerate fucked me in the lava pit, otherwise it would have been a bit longer vid
yeah hornyfavn, its a rogue like. you do get new cards and weapons by dying so its not all in vain
Thankfully, it's something. The fact that levels and enemies also do not repeat themselves is positive too, because otherwise it would be a real chore.
I've just died miserably at the second boss, twice, and seems pretty good. It's like a first person Binding of Isaac.
