Awesome, so there will be better loot to give to a companion that will leave my party without warning?

I don't remember anyone leaving except the Origin story ones. Your party won't leave you unless you've done something that crossed the line (they are very rare, specific choices that you make). So no, give away your badass loot, there's plenty more to be found.

Baldur's Gate II did it a lot worse by taking Imoen away without warning and for a HUGE chunk of the game. If you made her read all the spells you found, you'll need to buy them again from a store. BG2 had a lot of bad design decisions like that when it was the first time you played the game - you'd get screwed over badly unless you knew what was going to happen. |
Or just had a savegame ready. Seriously those problems were minor flaws compared to the derpholding we get in games nowadays.

This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Those were the scrolls you got from Irernicus's dungeon, not like you just missed out on time stop and horrid wilting. The scrolls that drop in there will be replaced many times over throughout the coming adventures and have an infenitisimal impact on the game as a whole - doesn't in any way qualify as getting screwed over badly imo.
For DAO, I can agree it would feel odd if you haven't got the RPG experience to suggest that giving loot to party members with names+character is preferrable over nameless random party members that match whatever class you don't play. But even then, the long-term impact is beyond negligible.

+1 for lore
-1 for Irernicus

I said one of the many - you still feel screwed over when you lose a NPC and since Imoen was a main char in BG1, most people assume you'd have her for the entire game again.
Wasteland 2 is guilty of some of the same things too - party mates leaving at the worst moments, for example. When an RPG does stuff beyond your control, it's only a good thing if it doesn't screw you over big time.

You gotta get with the times Rage. Everybody's favorite is CD Projekt now. I, for one, still have hope that BioWare isn't completely ravaged by EA's corporate greed, and I guess the next 2 games (from BioWare) will serve as proof, and we'll see what the studio has become. I'm optimistic.

If you are basing this on what the tapestry looks like after you import your save, it is wrong. The import feature does not recognize any of the choices you made in the game and just saves your achievements and what your character looks like. You have to manually set all the plot points.

It was as the above post mentioned and depended on the baby origins (But that didn't come up as a conflicting choice so I overlooked it.) but yeah there's that as well, since I didn't use Origin's cloud service and the sync feature from Bioware I have no saved progress from either game so I had to set it all up manually.

So, is this a continuation of the second or something new again? Bad part of the first game was that you created a custom character so that character probably doesn't exist in the world in sequels.

It's a separate story, but carries forward elements from both previous games, like the mage-templar conflict of DA2. That's the point of the Keep, to include your choices. They have confirmed that the Warden from Origins won't be making a direct appearance (assuming they are still alive), but presumably they will be mentioned on multiple occasions (given that Morrigan and Leliana are both advisers, and other Origins characters, like Alistair, will have some cameos).

What he is saying is that you would need to do it manually either way - there is no way to import saves. The sync only syncs your profile, which means achievements and your character name/appearance.

My advice for using the Keep would be to cancel the narrated summary when it starts and jump straight to the Tapestry to edit your choices, then hit the play button in the top corner to play the (now revised) narration after you're done. I'm not sure why they didn't make that the default behaviour, since while you can edit some choices while the narration is playing, several critical choices have dependencies that can only be enabled in the Tapestry.
By the way, having now used the Keep myself, I have confirmed my suspicion that it is nothing more than DRM. It could have easily have been included as part of the game itself, and with much higher quality (gotta love crackling, low bitrate audio).

And low framerate Flash animations. I've seen better shit on newgrounds.
