because you better like opinions of BS journalists that are paid to say this game is GOTY when it is not , in its current state

guess those two DLCs will be those patches we will be waiting for ... or not

Finally finished it.

During the final stretch I found myself thinking - "why won't this just fucking END?!?!" Then the ending happened, and shit all over my hard work with a bunch of bullshit.

This guy is a genius story-teller who has made millions? Man, and here I thought that Japan of all places had some high standards for excellence. Coulda fooled me.

Not a bad game (as long as we leave the engine and "artistic vision" out of the equation), just too stretched out with nothing new to offer for its final third or so.

By the way....question...

genius storyteller? wut?

Mikami is the creator of resident evil 1 and 4.
these are among the most influential games of all time, thanks to a slew of great ideas and novelties, but they were never ever regarded as having genius storytelling Laughing

Fair enough. As a rule I normally stay WELL away from anything with a Japanese developer - but all I've ever heard were people ranting and raving about how great this guy is - so I assumed it was due to a horror/storytelling, but evidently that's not the case.

"His" (which are not quite his as he doesn't do the actual writing, but he does work with the writers to set up the story, characters, ..) scripts at best are hilarious for being over the top.

His strengths are with game mechanics, atmosphere, balance, pacing, etc and that's what he and his games are known for.

Quote:
The Evil Within has been out a week, and we’re thrilled to see so many of you enjoying your experience with the game. In tandem, we’re also reading feedback from some of you guys on how you’d like the PC experience improved.

We always try to be responsive to our fans and we are looking at your suggestions. We are open to modifications of the PC experience but we’re investigating and testing what’s possible that won’t negatively affect other players. We are evaluating optimizations for players with high-end PCs to improve the gameplay experience at 60 FPS. We’re also looking into ways to allow you to remove the letterbox format of the game for those of you who prefer not to have it. Over the next few days we’ll be working on potential changes and testing them. If all goes according to plan, you’ll be able to go hands-on with these changes soon. When we have more information on PC-specific changes, we will let everyone know.

We believe The Evil Within is an extraordinary game, and obviously we're happy that all of you are excited about it. But we want all our fans, including those of you on PC w/ high end rigs, to be able to experience the game the way they want. So we are seeing what we can do to provide you with optional changes you have said you would like.

Thanks for your wonderful support and valuable feedback.

Let's hope for better performance.

IMO, the PC enhancement patch, the first PC enhancement patch at least, will mostly do what Flawless Widescreen does, so it shouldn't really take too long.

I also posted on the previous page how the day 0 patch for the console versions improved the framerate ~30-40% and improved the resolution another ~3%.

Assuming the PC port was a lower priority perhaps some of these optimizations haven't yet been released for the PC and will follow soon. Or maybe not.

The fact there's story DLC to follow also makes me hopeful developers won't pull the plug on it just yet Razz

= no optimization will be done, but we will remove the fps cap so if your pc is powerful enough you can reach 60fps. Nothing the current community patches don't do already. Same goes for widescreen I'd bet. We'll see.

They already allowed you to remove the fps cap. edit: to clarify I mean it's not something modders did, unlike the FoV fix.

* few hours after launch - community came up with a fix for shitty bars and FoV
* a week after launch - publisher says "they are looking for a fix for shitty bars and FoV"

What's up with all this post-launch quality support for PC games lately? I'm impressed, damn!

What's this trendy obsession with endless over-the-top gore? Can't we have a horror game that's slightly mature or evolved?

Well, ok, Alien Isolation managed to create real tension without cheap tricks - but then it went to shit around halfway through.

Oh well Sad

It is called "body horror" or "american horror". Primitive, simplistic type of horror that works for simpler audience. The more the better. You don't need taste for that, just cramp it all over.

After all, this game is sure a survival horror.
