Don't want to steal the topic too much but I want to gift my gf with 2.0 speakers for her notebook and was thinking about those maybe
http://www.ceneo.pl/13305449
Any ideas?
Must be rather cheap, 2.0 (or 1.0 if its some cool notebook solution) and rather portable so no big speakers
Multimedia speakers are generally the best for small areas or laptops. They're small in size but are made to accommodate the varying frequencies put out by a multitude of applications. HP has been around the block a few times. While they aren't audiophile, your GF shouldn't care if it's on the go. The larger the speakers would obviously be too heavy and in small room could get too boomy do to the restraint on speaker positioning to get that sweet spot.
Don't forget the multi-coefficient of the anodynes that those babies put out, Hewlett Packard has a history of working with multi-layer support in the construction of the high-registers which always shows in the resonance and fluidity of the distortion.
If you listen to metal too, those are awesome. But watch out for dissonance, place them high and on vibration-free surface.
Seriously KC, for the money you can't go wrong with those HP-speakers. It's like a dark horse in audio. The copper-cables are oxidized which gives like a 0.001 signal to noise-ratio, even if you plug that into an old cassette-player, they will sound amazing. You won't get the maximum power, put a T-amp on top of that and you have the equivalent of like a lower end Dalí-kit. Just the treble element alone is worth that price.
Later on if you're GF decides they're melting her ears with the perfect resonance in her music but is slightly lacking the sub 80Hz a simple sub hooked up to the above mentioned t-amp you could buy later would fill in the missing void of lower bass notes. I don't remember their frequency response but the drivers for the mids aren't recessed at all so the illusion of putting the vocals in the front is def there.
They're not bright at all but also won't billow out at lower frequencies.
If you've never worked with speaker positioning you basically need to measure the distance from yourself to your speaker. If you're 2 meters from your front right speaker, you want to be 2 meters from your left speaker, then your speakers need to be 2 meters apart from each other, to get that perfect sound positioning.
With speakers like these, they have that curvature in the front to accommodate the fact you're sitting close to them for applications like using a laptop so they hit a wider arc so you don't have to "toe in" the speakers.
If you're wondering why they're cheaper it's because HP is a bigger company and can afford more wholesale prices on parts. Plastic also helps since it's so cheap to produce vs fiberboard used to make most speaker boxes.
I had to take out a monitor to fit them on my desk until my new desktop is done being machined at work tomorrow. Which is going to be fun building a support frame for.
So far they sound pretty damn good. It's a little boomy because of the hutch of it. They pack quite the sound for being such small speakers. The mids...oh god the mids on these are amazing. Highs don't break up at all, they stay consistent. Lows..well..they're bookshelf speakers. They'll have a sub to accompany them soon enough.
It's a good level or 2 of a step up since I won't be traveling with them or anything. They're a bit bigger so I'm getting a better low/mid range frequency response but they crossovers on the HP are probably higher built due to the company having more money to put into their quality.

Wattage =/= quality
As I said, she'll enjoy them but eventually if she comes home to a certain spot on a regulary basis, just have a sub sitting there waiting for her to plug into. The extra money you'll save on these you can put into a sub.

I've had this chair since....uh...2005? The arm rests have no padding anymore but it's still comfy as fuck. I got it at Menards which is a huge hardware store where you buy doors and house supplies, they jsut happen to have computer chairs one day and I bought it and have had it since lol. I've bought other chairs but this one just doesn't want to let me leave it.
Finally got some speaker stands!! Spent a good week and ISOAcoustics had the best reviews and some nice tests done.
The sound really opens up having these ear level! Highs are even more crispier, mids are nice and warm, and with them not sitting on the desk the lows are a lot tighter. Just the highs alone now, you can hear more from them than before.
These speakers sounded great before lifting them up but god damn, having everything where it should be aimed now is just a whole new level of awesome.
This guy did a pretty good test on the difference between them being on stands and some desk pad.
This looks retarded. I bet nobody here would hear the difference with stand
spykez you are taking it too srsly

Tweeters have a very tight cone of sound projection and are extremely direction unlike your lows. You want them ear level for a reason.
These are studio monitors, not your traditional speaker, there's a difference in how they detail sound. Learn a thing or two. Most people here who are interested in audio DO know what they're talking about and WOULD hear the difference between a speaker/monitor being the proper height vs sound being directed at your elbows.
Idiot.

You are just cute
I didn't said anything about puttingspeakers under desk.
You are so easily angered that it's funny. And yet another time You insult me and You don't even know me. I am not a crazed audiophile who imagine he hear things. Maybe that's why You get angry so quickly

Perhaps if you didn't dismiss things you know nothing about (or at least know less than you think you do) as retarded and tell other people they are imagining things (especially if it concerns things they are obviously passionate about) they wouldn't be so quick to lash out at you
I don't know why you would just dismiss people who try to get the most out of the sound system they invested in. Just because you don't care about it, doesn't mean that others shouldn't either. Definitely not when your argument is "I think it's stupid".
On the subject at hand, I remember when I was a kid and had some "crappy" PC speakers I noticed that raising them off the desk and putting them higher made a huge difference in sound. I even stacked up books to place them there
It wasn't for all the same reasons - they don't put much effort in providing proper acoustics for speakers like that, so simply having them off the table would make a difference - but either way, the point is there is nothing left to the imagination - it does sound different.
Any manual for setting up a speaker system will also tell you that the height should be adjusted so the tweeters would be at ear-level. It's just how it works.

I doubt it, there will be a next 'I-Know-It-All' moment soon. Usually that lessens with growing older so there's something to look forward to.
Some advice my friend usually spread around: There will always be something that someone knows more about than you, acknowledge that and you'll learn a whole deal more and get a bit more humble in the process.
I don't go as far as Spykez go, but I wouldn't dismiss it either. When you are passionate about something: you usually want is as good as it can be and you'll look deeper into it.
It's not a rocket science. Just a common understanding of how things works. You are overthinking it guys... Those are just speakers....

It can be, it's not invalid just because you don't have a deeper interest in it.
The world doesn't conform to your ego, so stop trying to mold everything around that.
I have pretty deep enthusiastic interest in it and I still don't think it's all that complex. Just impossible to find perfect speakers/headphones.... tho I would gladly buy those audioengine speakers for myself
