I don't know about that but I've noticed it's easy to miss items and stuff in each chapter. Thoroughly exploring can be very rewarding, especially if you do it at the beginning before entering some cinematic that will lock you down from the rest of the area, like in chapter 4.

yeah i explore everything usually ( i restarted the chapter 4 after the cutscene to be sure to explore it) but i never use the haystacks ... oh well will see in the next chapter if i find something in them
can i go back to the different chapters after the endgame?

And how you killed all the assholes in the village without hiding? I broke all boxes in the map and I've got 8 rounds for the pistol, thats it, no more ammo for that part. |
with fire, some cary torches/you stealth kill them first, another method is when you set a body on fire when an enemy is near. i took them all first then the big guy later with some 3 grenades i had and some shotgun.

Played for a couple of hours, I'm at chapter 3. Nice game, even tho the optimization is shit.
A question: is it useful to burn bodies? I didn't notice any coming back to life after I've killed it, does it happen randomly? Should I burn every one, or should I conserve matches?

Conserve matches to burn bodies that look like they can re-animate. But for instance, once I've blown some zombie's head to pieces I wouldn't waste a match on him.

I stopped burning every corpse i saw.
Only burning those knocked down enemies now, or in very few cases corpses that seem they will stand up if i loot nearby items

Fucking disgrace is what it is, coming from Alien Isolation with 120FPS to this garbage that runs at 40 at best |
Agreed!

So, I finally installed this tricky beast. The first impact was traumatic , since with the default black bars (bigger than the playable area itself) and gluedtothescreen-powered vision the whole thing felt truly embarrassing. Jap devs gonna Jap.
But then, the +r_forceaspectratio + Cheat Engine fov tweak, with grain and motion durr disabled made me feel like a happy panda again. At least partially, because while it's true that it doesn't stutter with my 570 at max details, it's also true that with the ghetto tweaks enabled, them 30 cinematic fps are no longer guaranteed (how weird does it sound, welcome to 2014) and I sometimes have drops to mid 20s...true console experience. The 4GB requirements were a bluff though, it's something.
At least, I like the game so far (I'm a couple of hours in): the atmosphere and design are actually nicely done, a mix between RE4 and Alone in the Dark, even though there's dat cinematic feel typical of mainstream games that can become annoying.
There's a lot of hand-holding as expected, but also exploration and big focus on sneaking around instead of shooting (you can't Rambo this one, especially on Survival). It's not too easy either, which is good.
Textures are generally better than I expected, but some of them are PS2-like, and generally the whole game still suffers from idtech's 38GB-worthy 'itsnotabugitsafeature' blurriness. On the plus side, they had the decency to implement dynamic lighting (damn finally! ).
It's playable with mouse controls, but it does feel a tad sluggish and not exactly responsive. All technical aberrations aside though, it is definitely not a bad game in my opinion, especially if we compare it to the Resipews 5/6 and the likes which were just plain shooters.

Just run Flawless and it will automatically update itself. Unless you meant the link TO Flawless, in which case;

Eurogamer just published a very detailed analysis regarding the superb nextgen performance of this cinematic game...
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-is-it-possible-to-run-the-evil-within-pc-at-1080p60
"In the here and now, The Evil Within joins the ranks of a steadily growing number of disappointing PC conversions, where achieving console-style image quality and performance is relatively straightforward on mid-range gaming PCs, but scaling up beyond the 30fps console standard to a locked 60fps proves inordinately difficult".

1. Start FlawlessWidescreen and make sure the plugin is installed and setup.
2. Start the game. (Desktop resolution and in game should be the same and it should not be changed without a restart of the game according to FW author.)
Works fine here.

It shouldn't be a directory issue since it AFAIK just finds the process in memory and attaches it's code.
I don't have it in Program Files either and I don't have it on Steam.
Only thing I could maybe think of is some shitty antivirus software but I'm not an expert on FlawlessWidescreen and what can make it not work.
Maybe this?: http://www.flawlesswidescreen.org/node/1196
