Okay, finished the game, now playing the DLC I need help.
Ending:
Spoiler:
First of all, screw IGN! This game was fantastic IMO. I loved the soundtrack and the soundeffects, also loved the old school saving system. fuck autosaves!
Now, it looks like there will be a Alien: Isolation 2 or a DLC I guess?
DLC:
Spoiler:
I'm in the vents but I'm getting raped by the Xenomorph all the tiiiiime....arggghhhhhh
I must be forgetting things, I dunno, but in most old PC games I played (1990-) h we had manual saving available at any time in game. I'm talking about 1990- period though, so I dunno maybe by old school you mean like totally old school lol .
What we have in AI is a sort of manually activated checkpoints scattered around the map and although initially I didn't like it , in time I realized it added to the tension
was talking about the saving system like we had in Resident Evil 1 (1996). I love it when a game doesn't have checkpoints / autosave. That's what I also love about Dark Souls.
One could argue that a checkpoint system still provides more of a challenge than the "classic" manual/quick save, where you can save after each step you take

Exactly. F5 made things a little too easy. Although I've fucked up a few save games in my time spamming the F5 key at every step
there is nothing classic about saving in this game, i don't mind it, but it's just annoying, i'd rather have checkpoint with manual saving system, save anywhere that is
it's just pain in the ass in this game, you have to collect stuff, build stuff and if you get killed before you saved you have to do it all over again, that's why i don't even bother building anything except for medkits, everything else with an exception of revolver and flame thrower is useless anyway, i'd rather sneak past than atrack attention with useless bombs and gadgets
On the other hand a non-save anywhere system (in a lot of games) means I can't enjoy the game at all, because the save system dictates how I play.
My immersion (favorite non-word) is immediately broken if I'm forced to replay the last 15-30 min and I rather just not play anymore.
I realize I'm extremely alone in this but one of the most fucked up things in gaming for me right now is the quicksaving is cheating/breaks the difficulty/is the devil, thing, that's going on.
I really want to play this game and I'm really impressed by how faithful this game is to the source material. But because of the save system I can't explore out of a constant fear of having to replay the last portion of the game which again is worse then just not playing anymore at all for me.
I get that people don't want to manually save because of... "reasons" but I don't understand why they can't just have that option available.

+1
I agree with you on this. Why not give only the option.
On the other hand. The actual game (AI) is not that hard and saves are very well placed so give it a go.

That's good! You're afraid of making a mistake and dying. That's the point of survival games - trying NOT to die, instead of just running into an area, scouting for anything useful and then reloading a quicksave made just 5 seconds earlier.

Oh, I know. I've played 5+ hours and both DLC. I've no problem with the difficulty of the game at all. Since the save thing is for me completely unrelated to difficulty.
I don't want to quicksave every 5 seconds but I do want to be able to save when I feel it's appropriate without having to run back to a savepoint. It's really more of the entire philosophy behind this design and how it changes (for me, for the worse) the feel of the entire game.
It doesn't matter... game is great. I'm just crazy and have very strong opinions about what I expect from games and how much control I'm willing to relinquish.

Tbh. If you could save freely Ala good old F5 quicksave In a game like this, you would probably end up saving in a No win situation

Thats what you have multiple quick save slots for.
After playing for few hours into the game (after the alien is properly introduced and stalks you constantly) I have to agree that some situations might be a little bit frustrating and you are more scared about the x minutes you can possibly lost and not about the alien itself. It is specially horryfing when you have job and other stuff to do and your playing time is quite limited
yes, sadly, because every fucking new game has autosave and checkpoints. except few games.
Yeah, but what really fucks up a good gaming experience is quicksave. Its so addictive, and we all do it... just becomes a habbit to press F5 way to often
"there is nothing classic about saving in this game, i" so wrong.. the sounds.. wow.. im on my toes all the time.. call me sissy hehe first "horror" game i tried since my pals want me to.. i hate it really now since im a bitch hehe
sea eaysily spooked but not in movies must be the interactive =) kinda the point hehe and yeah.. im lame.. boho dont play it then.. but i want to try it for so long.. alien 1 movie is so creepy =) (yes im older) =)
I must say that after some initial frustration its gooing smoothly now. At the "beginning" (when alien starts to stalk you) some save points are spread maybe too far away for that introductory chapter. Later on in some places theres a save point next to the elevator, you go up and in the next room theres another save point lol.
When alien is nearby save poin you can save and just mess around a little bit, observing his behaviours/scripts.
Best tip is to learn how to read motion tracker number (left bottom corner) which is basically your save guide - while its at 0.96 you are completely save, the lower it gets the more fucked up you are From my experience alien never cheats, he doesnt randomly pop up from the vents - theres always some sort of indication - either sound when he launches in the vent above or his spit dropping from the open vent - if you step under it youre dead.
Also sometimes by loocking at m.tracker you can also clearly see at some moments that there are "alien free" sequences which saves a little bit of tension and its easier on the mind/nerves
Btw how can you check on what chapter you are currently?
I just fixed the broken elevator, can anyone tell me how far along in the game am I?
I must admit I'm enjoying the game, but I don't find it very scary for some reason. The alien never takes you by surprise, you always hear it coming from a long way away (music, steps, motion tracker) so it never makes you "jump off your seat" if you know what I mean. Also, once he sees you you're immediately fucked, which takes away from the tension, since you don't have a chance to try and hide (and consequently you don't have the fear of "have I fooled it? Or is it about to get me?"). Instead when you are discovered you die immediately and must retread your steps from the last checkpoint, which breaks the tension completely, since repeating what you've already done makes what was initially unknown (and consequently scary) mundane.
In the end, I'd say good game but it's failing to scare me, I found other similar games much more frightening (a couple that come to mind : outlast, amnesia). Really failing to understand why everyone is finding this one "shit-in-the-pants scary"
