Avatar: The Legend of Korra (TV Series)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1553656/

Quote:
The Legend of Korra is set in the fictional world of Avatar: The Last Airbender 70 years after the events of that series. The world is separated into four nations: the (Northern and Southern) Water Tribes, the Air Nomads, the Earth Kingdom, and the Fire Nation. The focus of the series is "bending," the ability of some humans (and animals) to telekinetically manipulate the element associated with their nation (water, earth, fire, or air). Bending is carried out using spiritual and physical exercises, which are portrayed in the series as similar to Chinese and other Asian martial arts.

Only one person, the "Avatar", can bend all four elements. Cyclically reincarnating among the world's four nations, the Avatar is responsible for maintaining peace and balance in the world. The Legend of Korra focuses on Avatar Korra, a seventeen-year-old girl from the Southern Water Tribe. At the start of the series, she has already mastered waterbending, earthbending, and firebending, but must complete her training by learning airbending from Tenzin, the youngest child of Aang and Katara.

The series is mostly set in Republic City, the capital of the United Republic of Nations, a state that emerged after the end of the war that occurred in Avatar: The Last Airbender. The metropolis, described as "if Manhattan had happened in Asia" by the series' creators, has become a melting pot for people of all nations. Its residents are united by their passion for "pro-bending," a spectator sport in which two teams composed of one earthbender, waterbender, and firebender try to throw each other out of a ring using bending techniques.

Felt the need to open up a thread about this since search yielded nothing, but that's broken.

Anyway, this follows up The Last Airbender, which featured Aang as the avatar and was absolutely mind blowingly fun and smart for a grown man to watch, and a joy to a kid. 70 years later, Korra is ready to take the reins, and while the first season is mediocre, and the second season even more so, the third season came back in absolute force with the most terrific villains, the main one being voiced by Henry Rollins which does a fantastic job at portraying an anarchist airbender (air bender philosophy and way of life is peaceful and airbending should be used only for defense and convinience. Also, they were great jokers. The show has stunning, hand painted backgrounds which are digitally scanned and added, a terrific soundtrack and the best third season to ever grace my fanboi monitor.

It's pretty weak compared to the original. I think I only watched S1 though (I don't remember whether I finished it).

I think I can safely compare the first 10 episodes of this season to the third ATLA season. It's so, so good. Oh, and they're finally traveling! No more Republic City bullshit.

So, this season's final two episodes got released a while ago and I gotta say, this has been a season finale absolutely mind blowing. Easily up there with the last 4 episodes of The Last Airbender. The past 5 episodes have been pretty brutal as well, especially with P'Li , Ming-Hua and Earth Queen's deaths, never expected an animated show be this brutal, especially one broadcast up until recently on national TV. Anyway, not sure if there are any other fans around, but the first two season are worth a shot solely because they lead to what is arguably the best season in the entire Avatar series thus far.

I ignored this for years until my missus started watching it (ATLAB) on Netflix. Turns out it's pretty fucking good actually! The best fusion of Japan and American anime, the Japanese style artwork, the American character development without the constant bullshit drama and angst nonsense so prevalent in anime. It's been really enjoyable to watch and we're a couple eps away from the end, so we'll move onto Korra afterwards Smile

Oh man, you are in for a blast. Maybe I'm a fanboi, but I honestly couldn't have seen this season being any better.

Unfortunately, the first two season have that angst and stuff you find in anime, but it's bearable as it's not in a huge quantity. Once the show got rid of the romantic circles developing, it's been smooth sailing.

Also, I really wish I were you and be able to see all three seasons for the first time, again, also, prepare your anus for the last 4 episodes of ATLA, damn.

Book 4 trailer up.

I like this show way too much. A tad disappointed there doesn't seem to be any Fire Nation lands in it, but it seems that Kuvira, the guard that saved Tonraq and Korra a lot of times seems to be in control of the Earth Kingdom.

Give or take 70 years after The Last Airbender.

Katara is still present but very old, so is Zuko. Sokka is dead but his death is still a mistery. Toph is missing and the series features both her daughters (from different dads) helping the Avatar. First two season are average, but the third one is very much on par with the third from The Last Airbender. This is coming from someone who stopped watching during season 2 and I came back when S3 started to see what the fuss was about. I'm very glad I did so, the series started picking up a lot in the third season and it seems the 4th season is gonna deal with stuff once and for all. My only regret is that it's the last season, she's only 21 in the 4th, Aand lived until 60 or so biologically and he died because of the time he spent in the ice, it drained him a lot.

Anyway, if you really don't wanna watch the whole abysmal second season, start that season with Beginnings part 1, it explains the origins of the first Avatar and you can watch the first season for knowing the characters. The dynamic between them changes a lot during the third seasons, though. And I am very glad they stopped the teenage angsty drama that plagued a lot of the second season.

The episode was obviously made as a two part premiere, it wasn't great on its own. It's like Nickelodeon is trying to get bad reviews for korra to stop airing it completely.

I hope season 3 will pleasantly surprise you, many of the episodes are absolute gems of writing and portrayal of real issues. Season 4 shapes up to be the same. Episode 2 and 3 were really fun, and both did a lot of fan service, especially the 3rd one which aired yesterday. Toph still kicks absolute ass.

Eh, ep7 was a bit too weird.

Ugh I didn't like ep 7+8 at all. It was just silly and bad, nothing like I expected. I'll just watch the last ten minutes of ep14 and skip to S3.
