Hey, I need a notebook recommendation for usage at the university.

My sis in law is starting her CS studies and she'll also use it personally. So it shouldn't look like an ugly brick. It should have enough power to also run some games... i3's without turbo boost and slower gfx chips cost only 100€ less and don't offer anything useful else so I don't see a reason to go any lower spec wise.

This one looks quite nice and seems to be fairly cheap aswell:

i5 - 4210U (1.7GHz, up to 2 core 2.4GHz or single core 2.7GHz)
8GB RAM
1TB HDD
2GB Geforce 840M
15,6 1366x768
599€ (I wanted to stay <600€ anyway)

and it looks quite nice.

If you have anything else in the same price range with more power/nicer design/longer battery life, fire away Smile

huh, what is the difference to this one?

^^ This seems to be from the X series... apart from the smaller HDD there doesn't seem to be a difference though?

the one you picked looks like a decent one. don't think you can get much more power with that budget. mostly comes down to brand preference. usually dells are priced tiny bit higher and other brands a bit lower.

ugh right, I forgot to look at dell
Let's see if they have something suitable.

I don't get it why all the other notebook manufacturers besides apple have such a confusing naming scheme and so many stupid model variations that you can only find on one page and on the other one it's named differently with the same specs but some stupid minor change...

Makes it impossible to look for reviews and/or price comparisons Mad

Yeah, it's fucking stupid how many different model names they use on their laptops.

The dell inspirion 15" looked nice but it had only a R7 265M in there :/

I guess it'll be asus.
