I knew to be suspicious due to its huge marketing campaign. Even more so when Totalbiscuit revealed that pre-release footage deal that WB was offering where people weren't allowed to say anything bad about the game.

That explains all that 9+ reviews from "game journos".

Gaming sites are raving about this and calling it a "sleeper hit". I guess I should have paid more attention to it since announced Laughing

I painted a bit of wood last night and watched it dry. It was fun.

My review for Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is up on Ars Technica! I was not very impressed, to say the least.

Tried the Ultra texture pack because some people were saying it doesn't use more then 4GB of VRAM if played at 1080p.

I didn't monitor my own VRAM usage but using the ultra textures w/ 4GB caused stuttering.

I still enjoy the game. I don't think it's season pass worthy, but it's worth the money. Yes, it's repetitive but this isn't much different then the AC games. AC 4 was about the only game of the series that felt less repetitive simply because you had the world to sail around.

I also like the game a lot...so much fun sneaking around and doing vengence missions and other sidequests.
Only done a few main missions due to exploring and gathering all small crap I can find.

Runs fine and according to afterburner, using HD textures and ultra settings,it uses around 5,5 GB of VRAM. Could be false though. Very Happy
Only gripe I have is that it's a port and it shows. Don't know about surround, but eyefinity doesn't work and it has a narrow FOV. Also I had to set 1080p windowed resolution in the config file since the game gave me an resolution option of 1920x400...the fuck. Laughing

Other than that,it's good. Smile

About my only real complaint with the game is indeed the FOV. It is painfully shitty. Like looking through a tank view-port shitty.

Whoever they have doing him in the game sounds exactly the same from the films. I wouldn't call it a difficult voice to emulate. Just shove a dick down your throat and cough a couple times. That's the Gollum voice.

I wonder how much vram is required at that res and ultra textures... Laughing

As for the game itself it's decent for what it is.

No, havent checked the Skilltree at all, but will do now to see the requirements for the skill itself and test it out. Hope its not one of the last skills tho.

It's 4th tier ability(death threat) but there is no requirements except for just getting to the 4th tier.

I got there pretty fast tbh. I just started doing all captains mission one by one (+40-50 power per captain) often without collecting any intel and got there pretty fast I'd say. Now I don't have to worry about not having access to any tier. Smile

@prudislav I haven't got it myself coz I was pretty much ignoring main missions for a while but it is said that you get it when you get to the second map and help the Queen several times or something like that.

Does the game get any harder? The orcs are really easy to kill and the orc leaders dont give much of a trouble. Being this easy is kinda annoying.

Not from what I can tell, some story missions introduce additional opponent types but that doesn't make things harder by much since most are still very easy to deal with.

Some of the missions also have forced stealth elements or are timed but the AI makes that pretty easy since they're very passive when not alerted.
(And when combat starts it's pretty easy to just counter and keep attacking.)

So it seems like the general consensus is that is a a great game, but not quite GOTY material... which is fine, really.

I'm going to hold off on a purchase only because I am still playing through other games that are taking up my time. The steam x-mas sale is only a few months away, I will be picking it up then Smile
