Hi

I was going to buy a DVI adapter when I read that it only supports resolutions of 1920x1200 and below

wut

Anyway, I then read that dual link adapters are needed

One is $30, one is $120.

wut

Anyway, does anyone have any experience with this? What can I use to get it working on a 1440p monitor?

Thanks for any help.

You need active adapter. Dont know what connections you have in the macbook, but in work Macbook (thunderbolt connection) i use active mini displayport -> dual link DVI (wieson is manufacturer).

You answered your own question. Dual link dvi cable will be fine. Doesn't need to be an expensive one.

But the expensive one, even on Apple's own store, has negative opinions all over it

If their own 'premium' expensive shit doesn't work, and I can't find any clear indications of what does, then I'm not sure what to go with

I even found comments where the Apple one was said not to work with my specific monitor

@Breezer I can't seem to find that in this country

Yeah it might be hard to find that, Accell adapters works the best with Macs what i have been testing, they are also the most expensive -.- (built 6-projector Qlab "mac" and had shitloads of issues with several adapters).

Doesn't macbook have displayport? My old one has mini-displayport, it should allow 1200p+ resolutions, I have used miniDP->DP cable for it, but if your monitor only supports dvi then you are going to need dual link dvi on one end like stated above. Smile

Displayport would be perfect.

Depends on the Macbook.
- If it's pre-Thunderbolt, you only get DP 1.1a
- If it's Thunderbolt v1, you still only get DP 1.1a
- If it's Thunderbolt v2, you get DP 1.2

v2 is only on the current model (from this summer) and the ones from late last year/early this year.

In all cases, no daisy chaining because Apple have cockblocked it and only allow it on their own monitors.

2560x1440 should work on a proper DP connection or with an active adapter though.

you still need to buy that bullshit cable and no one ever has one. macbook owners always crying when they need to connect their crap to a monitor. not to mention connectors and cables change with pretty much every new iteration, what a massive clusterfuck.

yes because everyone out there has the latest macbook pro and not any other apple laptop. but reality is most ppl don't either have dp cables, or monitor with dp connectors or both. oh and then there's a whole thing about how apple doesn't officially support any monitors except their own overpriced junk, aka 27" monitor that has same panel as 4 year old Dell 27". even the fact that this thread exists with so many conflicting advices shows how difficult it is what is supposed to be so simple (more apple fail). so just eat a dick you unbearable douche, defender of everything apple.

and yes i edited my post. Wink

well this is a forum, so when you make a thread chances are high that there will be pointless debating and discussions.

The monitors have displayports

I'll order some today then thanks

Just get mini-DP to DP cables then. All you need, works fine. Fuck DVI and HDMI Smile

Oh and FYI rgb: DisplayPort is not an Apple invention, nor did they contribute much to it, or implement it properly for that matter. DP is by far superior to HDMI. Heck, you can run HDMI over DP, that's how flexible DP is.

But it's not standard in cheap TNs, which is what most people use, so it's Apple fail.

Oh and by the way, my MBP supports my 2013 Dell 27". More hrr#000 fail.

oh iderpan, always with the half-truths Very Happy

what i meant with proprietary was obviously thunderbolt which is semi-proprietary.

what i meant with monitors not officially supported was obviously reference to countless problems ppl have connecting apple computers to non apple monitors. official forums and other forums are FILLED with all kinds of hacks and solutions trying to get them to work. what a mess.

good luck getting Dell U2713H 10bit and 14bit LUT working with a garbage apple computer.
