Make up have been a thing for more than thousands years. The peasants might not be able to afford it, but it is there for those that could afford it. Yes it might look too modern, but this is also fantasy, not reality. Culture, fashion, etc in fantasy is fictional. So yes make up is fine. But chainmail bikini is purely an aesthetic thing to appeal to different crowds. For that it is more controversial

I'm aware of historical types of makeup, but a warrior in full plate mail out in the wilderness hacking up orcs and other beasties tarted up like a whore heading out to a nightclub? Come on.

Well, to do it properly would mean either sub-game/sub-menu before social/diplomacy sections, or different models depending upon cut-scene/gameplay. The former would break the flow of the game, the latter would be too much time/effort for developers, and would probably be called out by "gamers" as a waste of time/resources.
No easy solution, right now.

Makeup is just an overlay, it's a piece of piss to switch on and off. They already do much the same thing with the stupid blood spatter.

So what? Nobody forces you to apply it.Besides, male actors use makeup. Just don't overdo it.
Personally I would hate any sort of restriction in the character creation process. If somebody wants to make a clown out of his character and they are OK with playing this character in this particular setting it's fine by me then. As long as it's not mandatory to play as a clown and as long as I can create a brutal viking for my playthrough.

-friendly fire can be enabled in settings. However AI is stupid so you'd better turn it off lol

I would love to play GOW on PC..but sadly this game looks and feels nothing like GOW ;(

I'll try to watch a playthrough of this game's story when it is out and save the cash as this isn't the type of gameplay I'm looking for in my RPGs.

I don't know what's bothering me more: the fact that they have ACTUALLY spent so much time on a game feature that no1 SHOULD care or that there are people who actually like the makeup artist thingy....so sad...

Well, I can't say I'm happy about this. I'm sort of neutral. If they can let us customize characters this way, fine. It not, well, it absolutely doesn't matter.
I don't know how many resources they have with EA backing, employees and shit so I dunno if wasting time on makeup had a negative effect on other aspects of the game. Tbh I think they didn't even bother doing it the right way since it looks like they have been gunning for DA2 & derpsoles gamers all this time.
