Back story: So a friend of mine went to a resturant two weeks ago or so, he ordered some fried fish (yes, irony) and took a few bites after realizing that it was undercooked (consistency was "slimy"). He complained about it and they apologized recooked the fish and he was happy.

But as he came home he became acutely ill, pains in the stomach and spent the entire night/next day exploring the wonders of cascade-vomiting from both directions.

He went to the hospital and they diagnosed acute food poisoning (campylobacter), he spent about a week with fever and stomach pains before he got back to work.

So, I just went to a chinese fast-food restaurant and took a bite out of a piece of fried chicken that OBVIOUSLY wasn't done. Fucking hell man, I normally am very calm but this time I fricken lost it, I asked for the restaurant owner and the head chef and got into their kitchen and wondered what the hell was up.

I was met with a lot of excuses and "you need to leave now, we will call the cops", so I asked them to do so, upon which they became very friendly all of a sudden, so they cut open my fried chicken, which was about 2mm cooked, and entirely raw in the middle, and you could even tell by the crust that it was undercooked.

I took a bunch of photos and told them I would leave a report. Holy hell man, it's not like this is some run-down joint either, it's like an established chain which has a pretty good reputation. Obviously "mistakes happen", but given the experience I heard from a friend just recently I realized that I don't want to spend a week in bed with fever because of some unmotivated/stressed out klutz of a chef.

They gave me two coupons for free food at their place and a new plate of food, which I brought with me, because I spent my lunch in their kitchen arguing about how to cook.

Food like chicken is pretty fucking important to cook well or you could get seriously ill. Anyone who cooks knows it, and if you cook for a living and are a chef you CERTAINLY know it.

Bah...

Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

See I don't think mistakes like that should ever happen. It is really serious and staff should realise how serious it can be. If I were you I would get who ever is responsible for health and safety there involved and get them to inspect the company's premises.

Couple of years ago my friends family of 4 got food poisoned after visiting Chinese restaurant,
you people must be crazy to eat anything in a public restaurant.
My wife and i always cook at home, sure it takes a bit more time, but i'd rather know what i eat, than vomit after.

By the way I think the fish could cause illnesses even being properly cooked, the problem often happens in transport or storage (not cold enough) and then cooking doesn't get rid of everything...

As for chicken it is far less risky I believe.

Yeah. When bacteria multiplies it creates loads of toxins as a by product, so just killing the bacteria through cooking wont help much when your body has all those toxins to deal with.

after being a sous chef ( i helped the boss cook basicly ) for 6 months to help my friend start up his tapas bar i was very proud of the handling and quality of the food we put out. While we never mishandled food i could very clearly see and understand how much effort it took everyday to keep the quality to that high level and how many public restaurants of ANY price range ( not just your local take away) without that same passion to fail in that regard and put people without knowing in life threatening situations.
It pays off in the long run though, only complaint i had in 6 months was too much salt in the tuna potato salad, but thats cause the boss and i had very different ideas how much salt was enough and then i tried to adapt to his way of doing and that kinda backfired.... ANYWAY.

"and put people without knowing in life threatening situations. "

when people dont cleant their kitchen and trow away bad food or put raw chicken next to cooked stuff, this is criminal negligence ... u can not not know as a cook

i would always ask to look at the kitchen if i would take my kids out for dinner somewere after all the shit i see and hear , and ask the buffet manager when the last time was he measured the temperatuire of the food and to show me the tempeature meter . if he shrugged his head unknowlingly i wished him a good day and tell him to have fun with the food inspecters later while i went to another place i knew they took health and food serious. (ffyi meat needs to be at 60 degrees celcius and salads/cold stuff cant be hotter then 7 degrees, most places it drops to 40 for meat and above 20 for salads, sending u straight to the loo for the rest of the day)

ffs last time my sister invite me and my mother to some shithole where the fork and kives were rusted, i roasted the manager a new one

no compassion with people who fuck with my or my family health and neither should u , report them fuckers before they kill someone u might know or love

WHAT THE FUCK SWEDEN?

http://www.expressen.se/kvallsposten/ingela-51-akut-sjuk-av-chicken-nuggets/

Didn't know it could be this serious Sad Sad Sad

Im really happy Norway has very strict regulations, and thats also why we don't have meat with listeria like Sweden and Denmark. When thats said, when health and administration did a check on all the fast food places about half of them got warnings and 5 places where shut down. And thats just in my county.
