Could it be down to the weather system? the blue sky from E3 2013 seems like a sunny warm day whereas the GC footage looks like overcast and a dull day. I remember at this years E3 during the gameplay video they mentioned how weather affects things like how successful fulton recovery is, so there seems to be a weather system and change in play.

I don't think so. There is a whole colour palette change. The weather system=lighting changes.
I remember though having big palette changes in RDR on PS3 when I messed with the TV preset colour settings.

A new Metal Gear Collection may be on its way to fans of the series this year, judging by a tweet by Hideo Kojima teasing the mysterious compilation.

The Metal Gear Solid creator tweeted a photo of a projected image featuring the words “METAL GEAR COLLECTION 2014” along with the Kojima Productions logo.

Whatever's in it, it would be great if it came to PC.

MGS4 on PC Me Gusta

"I think Call of Duty resonates because it's believable and relatable," Sledgehammer Games cofounder Michael Condrey says.

Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty

Don't wanna hear the price for that, though Very Happy But getting them all together on PC would be very nice indeed.

This will probably be the re-refreshed hd collection that already came for old-gen few years ago - mgs2, mgs3 and peace walker, released for new gen (and maybe PC, who knows). I would love all four games with remastered mgs1 and psp ones to come out on pc but I doubt its gonna happen. Also mgs4 is the weakest one in the main four games.

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

Some design decision, I don't remember the exact details but something along the lines of Kojima wanting something sexier and "easier to cosplay" if I remember correctly.

I believe she's some sniper not that that means anything. Very Happy
(The one in the first Metal Gear Solid game at least wore a somewhat normal outfit. )

Yes there were some stuff in the previous games, such as (optionally) following a girl into the restroom (And getting yelled at for it.) in the first game or running around naked in the second game after being taken prisoner.
(And in the fourth I believe you collect playboy magazines and use them to distract guards, plus the non-lethal way to deal with those special women.)

And what better action for a sniper to take, than to switch on stealth mode after everyone saw you, during the fall, 10 m above ground only to deactivate it again on the ground...

Well that stealth suit in MGS4 could work instead of this swimsuit bikini thing, I don't mind though, these "boss" encounter characters have always been a bit extreme. Smile
(Or a variant of that stealth suit... - http://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/69323?tags=solid_snake Not quite work safe.)

The only MGS I've played was the first one on PSX.

Tried the 3rd on PS2 but the controls and camera were so bad that I didn't get pas the first mission.

Now for the question. I know these games are heavy on story (with hours of exposition) but what I want to know is: will I be able to follow the plot if I havn't played the last 3 games?
