Also, don't forget to talk to every NPC that you encounter, until they run out of lines. And never keep too many souls on yourself like Prandur said, it is too risky unless you're confident enough to proceed and slay enemies like a boss.
There are also the usual: be patient, don't rush, use shields a lot at the beginning (so that later you can alternate them with evasive maneuvers when you're more comfortable with the controls), pay great attention to the stamina bar (more important than the health bar) and to the equipment load (which can slow you down and make you very vulnerable).
If you want to melee the hell out of it, endurance/adaptability/strength/vitality are your friends when you level up. And don't forget to explore everything, evenl the tiniest details count =)
edit: you will still rage a lot, but that's part of the experience

Wow, that's the shortest and better made explanation for beginners i saw for this game
Every time i convince someone to play this game i spend 30 minutes to explain everything so the other person doesn't give up overwhelmed at the beginning

Were evasive rolls fixed for 60fps? Or do we still have to artificially limit our FPS to 30, so that we can properly dodge without having hitboxes twice our size during movement? And did they also fix the weapon degradation & enemy animations for 60fps?

Limiting it to 30 fps feels terrible but I want the game to run fluid AND that the game mechanics work as designed

You will need VIT soon, I can't see how you could survive for long with 102% load and just 10 VGR. That said you could also focus on ATN for that agility boost to make dodging more effective. Faster cast speed and slots will also be useful.

You're better off learning to dodge with no armor or pure cloth, then when you have the vit for it, wear the armor. It made my game progressively easier because not only could I time my dodges but if I fucked up, I had better armor later on.
Agility starts giving you diminished returns at 40, so just stop there.

definitely needs more END - no matter if you're more of a tank or dodger, more stamina directly translates into dps as well as avoiding damage.
regarding ranged combat: magic works fine, although you might be better off with miracles, since pretty much every enemy is weak to lightning and your faith stat also factors into your heide sword damage - which is, hands down, the best weapon for at least the first half of the game. oh and DEX is pretty much the red haired stepchild of all the stats, since dex weapons scale way worse and if you want a bow, there's the dragonrider bow which just scales (primarily) with STR. so no need to put points into it except for requirements and/or if you find a dex based weapon with a moveset you like.

You should be investing more points in adaptability (ADP) IMO. When you get your agility (AGL) stat to 100 you will be rolling away from nearly any boss physical attacks.

Hmmm weird, I didn't know about this and I can roll and dodge any boss while on 60 fps no problem.

Consume boss souls or trade? Anything worth trading?
The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

dragonrider bow, maybe moonlight sword and one of the 2 vendrick swords. keep in mind you only get enough petrified dragon bones to fully upgrade 1-2 of them in one playthrough

I'm about to start this game now. Just wondering, I have the RELOADED's release right now and it seems the DLC's released are only packed as a whole game by CODEX. I don't want to download the entire game all over again. Since the final DLC comes out next week, I wanted to know if I can start the game with RELOADED's release and are the saves easily portable to CODEX's version?

Just download FTS xdelta patches
Dark.Souls.II.Update.v1.04-FTS
Dark.Souls.II.Update.v1.05-FTS
And check your PM for DLC activation files.
There will be xdelta patch for the last DLC that should come friday or monday to complete the game.
Edit:
You can convert saves to any emulator there is tutorial in rin

They even added the one-second-delay to the mouse controls to make it even harder! They either despise us, or venerate us.
Regarding the evasive dilemma, that's why I would recommend using shields at first, 'cause otherwise it would get really frustrating, for silly artificial reasons. It's still doable, but sometimes it really isn't fair, you can notice the enemies' weapons swinging in the air and still hitting you, which is not cool.
@Gazzu: haha yeah, I know that feel!
@Horny: I prefer suffering and raging, all them masochistic tendencies gets awakened by the game

The DLC files won't do anything to your save the steam emulators will change the fake offline profile and the saves encryption , but in rin there is a way to convert saves in order to make them work with other emu.
Problem is RELOADED uses protection on their emulator and you cant just use only the new cracked .exe with old emu to prevent the problem, but as i can remember codex states their emu works with reloaded saves so you can use FTS patches + CODEX crack only.
Will send updates links soon.
