The difference between Newell and Notch is that Notch already sold his business to become a billionaire. If Newell sells Valve (which he won't at least for a long while) he is going to become several billions richer.

if you look at bank account, notch, might be richer than Gabe, but I believe he still owns most of Valve
the reason Gabe net worth isn't considered higher is because Valve is a private company, and therefore has no "official" value
but we all know that Valve value is much much higher than minecraft (probably in the likes of twitter, 30 billion USD, or even higher)

I can fully believe that Valve took the opportunity to classify her as contractor for the tax benefits (all corporations do shit like that).
The other allegations, of people calling her "it", etc, even if true, good luck proving them.
In any case, as almost always, this 99% will be settled out of court in a few years from now. She will get some thousand dollars and sign an NDA and that's it.
