It reminded me of the Black Lagoon monster with some Nosferatu here and there.  Definitely not what I expected either, I agree.
The writing is so-so thus far, but I still find the whole thing very much enjoyable. The kid and Nora are quite annoying, though.. I hope they die soon |

Still, I agree, it looks bad. He's... funny That's the worst fucking thing you want in your uber-very-very-very-old-very-very-very-bad master of worms, tfu, vampires. And his voice doesn't fit that face, like at all.
Doesn't hamper me much from enjoying the show, though. Glad to see another one biting the dust Now, just please, eat Nora, my beautiful, plentiful bloodsuckers

Yup the writing is consistently bad, but still not as bad as some of the stuff I recently saw (Under the Dome is a good example).
Rest makes up for it tho. 
The pace is what is refreshing for me and I'd wish a lot more shows would stop dragging things on.

I don't know what is more messed up in the show, the people with their silly behaviour, or the timeline. xD But as long as I can stop using them synapses, it's still a pleasant time-waster, even when nothing remarkable happens like in this episode.
I have to admit though, my expectations were definitely higher at the beginning, that goes without saying.
