So... Something weird is starting to go on.

I figured out, that expanded is for now the way to use that thing. For most of the day I was just using that. All demos started on rift immidietly. no problem. Then I started fiddling some, and now Rift is display number 1 and my dell is display number 2 even tho it's still main display.
That causes the huge problem that every demo starts on display2 which is my desktop. how do I switch em around. turning on/off, or changing places don't work.
And winkey+shift+arrows moves the windows but I am using 720p on my dell (to have both screens running at 75hz. Otherwise rift is vsyncing to my monitor 60hz) and image is all screwed when moved to rift.

Now... what the fuck happened that my main monitor is recognized as "2"
and it is showing correctly in amd ccc but most demos take the adapter number from windows settings.

here is a screenshot

ohh and when I disconnect or turn off, dk2, my main display number is "1" again. But whenever I turn on rift, its switching to 2 ! wtf windows. it is remembering some weird settings. how to clear them

Well, I have 3570K@4.5//7950@1140 and its good enough for most demos out there.

You should have a pretty good impression already. I think a lot of the stuttering is also due to their SDK. There is a judder problem they are already trying to solve. (like, everything is running well, but moving your head produces a slight judder.)

Ah ok... bought that second 7970 for the dk2, didnt knew its not working in crossfire... maybe i just sell both 7970 and buy a nvidia, as ati doesnt work very good for many demos ive heard?

Thinking about canceling my order and buying a sealed one from ebay or so... must...resist... but two months waiting time is just too much Crying or Very sad

I've had one demo since now, that I could not start, but I cant remember which it was, since I dled quite a package the first day I had the rift. Something minor.

As far as I can tell, AMD works with all the major demos and stuff.

But yes, If you can sell the two 7970s for a reasonable price, it s always better to have faster single card.

True... though i couldve had the Rift also for € 400,- but this one for 600 is unboxed and sealed... which is kinda important to me, as i heard the lenses scratch very easily. Ill put some smartphone display protection right on it when i get it.

i'd never spend that kind of money if i couldnt see in 3D, Rift is is all about the 3D, imo.. sure it's nice to have head tracking, but you could spend less and buy a used track-ir for next to nothing AND you would have proper games to play, not just indie demos with very mediocre graphics.

while it was fun to try it out i must say it's mostly been collecting dust after the initial "wow!" effect. The judder is killing the fun imo, hopefully it will get fixed.

I can see 3D, actually. Not just as immersive as others... and theres this software "Diplopia" which is in the making atm for the Rift, which aims exactly at my problem. If thats not worth it, then i dunno...

And then there are reports like this

Man... there is no good way to watch a movie. On dk1, vrcinema was ultimate app. Looked fantasic and played movies great. there is no such thing on dk2 Sad riftmax sucks ass and whirlgig stutters like crazy.

Hl2 works great but resolution is extremely low. its like internal rendering at 640x480. Its worst looking thing on dlk2

Killer, you mentioned you can't see the screen door effect. Are you using the standard lenses?
For me it was a immersion killer, all my eyes would do was focus on the damn grid effect.

I never kept the dk2 long enough to experiment with the other lenses. I have ordered another rift unit just last month, so I can try again.

I can see it but not in the same way as on the old rift. On the old dk1, it was huge grid of blocks and black lines. Here, it looks like...hmmm... how to describe it. Like 80s color newspaper or something. YOu dont notice the pixels grid too much, but the low resolution.

ofc the sde is still there but is much easier to look past it. Games looks rather good especially darker games and with good aa.

It's still not there but it feels 2x times denser than dk1 and made of dots rather than squares.

I am using B lenses now. No difference from A lenses for my eyes which is rather strange as I am shortsighted

this reddit post pretty much has it all.

edit: It seems this list is discontinued.

but you'll certainly find alot of stuff here:

I try to keep expectations low, but if i it helps just a little bit it was worth the money. There are so many stereoblind people on this planet, as the brain shuts up one eye pretty fast if somethings not correct, especially in the early years.

You are right ! it's very simple, You can set everything and it just works. No stuttering, judder or anything. I wish to disable low persistance tho, as its not needed on movies and it would make colours brighter.
But all in all its best player for dk2. I would say even better than dk2.
There are themes like cinema but they are very simple. black screen is just ok.
I like old Tv theme and curved tv but the checkerboard needs to go
You can even mirror desktop onto the rift !
