So I got an e-mail today from a bank, saying that on Monday I have a testing for a job there, for a programmer in an application support sector (whatever that is).
And the problem is, I kinda already have a job. Next month my boss should open up a firm and I'd start working for him, with pension and stuff. And I really like this job I'm doing. I'm a frontend web developer, and I work with wordpress. Css and html and some programing in js and php stuff. And it's cool, the boss is cool, and my days fly fast and I have learned a bunch.
So what do I do? I would have to go during work hours (in 1pm) and they require a dress code, which basically means, suite and fancy shoes and stuff that I don't have because I go in my jeans to work. :S
Why couldn't they asked this 3 months ago?? -.-"

Being programmer in a bank is usually shitty boring dead-end job, and after XY years you can write one or two stuff in your CV (especially if it turns out to be more support than actual creative programming). Stick to where you are, it will be more interesting and your CV will probably look better if you have to change job in a year or so. I almost ended up as a Java programmer in some local bank, thank Jebus I didn't. Now I have like 10 different (and interesting) projects listed in my CV for a three-year period in embedded development, turned out way better.
Especially if your parents tell you that working in a bank is a "safe job" - it isn't, it's easier to get fired in a corporation (for some made up reason) than in a small firm where everyone counts.

^ What he said. Being a programmer at a bank is soul crushing. Don't do it. What you have now is miles better than the bank job could ever be.

If it doesn't greatly improve your benefits or pay then stay with the job you know and like.
Your post sounds like they didn't offer enough since you're too conflicted. so by that I'd say stay.

Well they just send the mail that the testing is on Monday. That's it. No interview yet.
I do like my current job very much. There is no stress, and I'm anxious to see how the theme I'm working on will sell on themeforest
I think I'll stay at this job.

I don't see a single thing you mention that'd be better with the new job. That says enough about what you want I think.

I agree with the guys, if you already feel satisfied with your current one (and if there's also the possibility to have a bright future there, according to what you described, which is even better), I'd have no doubts.
I've worked in a bank for quite some time. It wasn't pure programming for me, but we still had to re-organize all their obsolete financial services from the 90s...and honestly, it was a pain in the butt. The fact that the bank was also involved in serious scandals didn't help either, but that's another story xD

Indeed, doesn't seem like a dilemma to me.
Stay where you are, if it doesn't turn out for the better then maybe you can apply to the bank later on.

I hate banks with a passion, so I'd ignore the offer. They are (to say the least) terrible corporations with no regards for human beings.

The thing I'd probably hate the most is the dress code xD Here I can come in my shorts, jeans, whatever, and nobody will say a thing
I guess I just needed to assure myself.
Thanks guys

dingding
fuck that
any job that appreciates how i look more than my coding ability can go fuck themselves
my personal opinion, but it speaks of a conservative atmosphere and attitude to the work you do and that's never good for you
employees who have been dehumanized into suits are also easier to fire

Don't make such a big deal out of a dress code lol
Most people have to wear 'uniforms' be it safety gear, companies working clothes, suits... and don't have an option to wear the clothes they usually wear.
Most of the time it's an improvement what they wear in daily life tho

How much is the salary difference.
For less than 500eur/month don't do it.
But as far as I know, banks aren't famous for giving big salaries..

Yeah, I don't know what I'd get, but it would probably be around what I'm getting now. And I do hope my current boss won't fuck me over and skimp with the firm opening :\

Don't worry men.
Even if he does, you will find a much better job, not in a bank, with no dress code, with a fun and casual spirited team.

I do know a lot more about the whole html/css/js/php thing after these two months tho, so that's something

Probably a bit late on this sorry.
I'm an IT recruiter.
If you're not bothered about the bank job then don't go. Especially as you enjoy your current job.
Banks mess people around a lot in the recruitment process so it's no wonder you have heard from them in ages.
