When i try to start the game it just quits and then a box appears saying "Failed to Initialize Renderer - Check DirectX Verision and Graphic Settings"

Anyone knows how to do? I have the newest Catalyst Drivers and DirectX, all other games work perfectly including F.E.A.R. and Quake IV. Wierd...

start>run>dxdiag

See if you have a problem there. Try doing the tests to see if everything is ok.

Already tried that, shows nothing :/ Seems kinda strange since i didn´t think that this game needed a muscle machine. I have P4 3.2 GHZ, 1512 RAM, Radeon 9800XT.

Its a problem with ATI cards at the moment, no official "fix" for it yet but there will be in a day or two. Worked fine for me though (9800XT, Athlon XP). Some people had more luck when they said yes to the DirectX 9.0c installation. I accepted it and the game works for me.

Do you get some error when loading the game regarding the DirectX version? Read on. This is for ATI card owners, but if you have a Nvidia card, read on - by all means.

1. Get version 5.10 from the official ATI site (www.ati.com). Only the drivers are needed, but grab what you need.
2. Install SP2 for Windows XP, if you haven't.
3. Install the DirectX from the CD/DVD.

Voila. I was to arrogant to install SP2 before, but it seems to solve the problem for this game.

Check out this forum:

The goal is to get your dxdiag to _recognize_(even if you already have the latest driver) your driver to 8.18.0.0 according to the gamedesigners.

Im happily playing it with a Radeon 9800pro without any startupprobs, although the damn game keeps rebooting without warning randomly.

Good luck!

Copied from elsewhere - it works for me.

I was having the same problem as everyone. Here is what i did.

1. mount it in Alcohol OR Daemon with NO emulation options on.

2. run sd4hide.exe and click HIDE

3. CLOSE sd4hide.exe

4. Click the game link on the desktop and start with the tutorial =p
------

A REALLY important step missing was the CLOSE part. With it open i always crashed after the splash.

I just mounted it with Daemon Tools turned on all emulation and played.

I got it working! i won the inernet!!

Basically do as above but if it still asks for DVD/CD go to desktop icon and right click > Properties > compatiability and change it from default to Win 2000 save and Dclick.

Worked for me

Good luck

Thats how i got it working.

Yeah for some of us all these instructions don't seem to work. I've given up hope by now. I'll just wait to buy the game, or get a crack if one will be available before next Friday.

I was such a stupid idiot!

For those who still can't get it to work - mount the MDS file - not the MDF! And it works using above instructions.
