Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

We should tell that to the oculus team, they are clearly wasting time and money on something this trivial Laughing

go see they DK2 tear down https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Oculus+Rift+Development+Kit+2+Teardown/27613
a samsung screen + Ir leds + camera that reads those + a custom made guts from phones with a gyro + a tuner

so you only need those drivers that are coded in those chips to slightly over clock your screen , add lenses and bam a a cheap alternative like it was showed ... a apk that works well , even on 7 inch android tablets that have gyro, you only need to just add those lenses ...

and you all take information so literal its irritating sometimes , Oculus team has now the kit ... now they "waste money " like you said on two things ... find new screen that has better refresh rates and no blur ... and video input lag

If its all so clear and natural, why havent you fucking built one already?!???? Very Happy

Clearly, the actual parts of it are one thing. The other part is to have the idea on how to get this smoothly working, and actually work on it,
get a big deal with FB and promote it so hard that no one can oversee (especially game producers) it. And then produce it for the masses. And for all this, i gladly give my money. In fact, 350,- are not that much in comparison.

Helix roller coaster gave me instant motion sickness the moment it left the platform!

Ocean rift was my best experience, although that made me feel uneasy at times.

This coupled with the screen door effect which my stubborn eyes wouldn't see past, made me sell my Oculus. Doubled my money Very Happy i got to experience the rift, which was why i bought it not to keep it.

I will now wait until CV1 and when our hardware can produce the needed visual quality.

Ok, after some initial hurdles, I setup Steam VR and ran HL2 EP2 ... omfg ... words cannot describe how incredibly awesome this is ... this is what I been waiting for this whole time, just amazing how well this works in VR ... ep2 has a lot of caves and cocoon type of small passages which makes it perfect for VR ... I am dying to play more actual games like this but this is a great start for sure ... btw running away from that big lion monster scared the shit out of me ... also after 4 + hrs in i had no issues with getting sick or anything ...

can You say how did You set it all to work ?
Whats the control scheme?

Also, I envy You ! Been waiting for mine for months now... just few more weeks.
Does positional tracking work in hl2 ?

Important thing was (where I got confused) is that when you install steamVR is to run it by:

- running steam
- clicking view/vr mode on
- after which steamvr loads and you can put on your dk2 and pick the game there ...

previously i did all the updates and just tried running it by just playing hl2 from the regular steam menu - had all sorts of problems ...

I cant wait to go back in tonight ...

I laugh when people consider oculus a gimmick or a passing technology ... even in this early stage with clearly unfinished code and everything it is the most exciting piece of technology ever made for games ...

Just ordered this beast. Someone in my area sells it for € 600,- and i asked him if i could try it before, but he wouldnt let me.
He said i could take a look in the config but thats it. I mean, buying something used for
nearly the doubled price and with no guarantee and then i cant even test it for 5min? lol

Better off with the waiting time... and the greatest pleasure lies in the anticipation, right? Smile

Well i would have too, but i have a good argument... everything
will just run way more smooth in 2 months with way more demos
and better guides/game support.

So im fine with that. Though i probably wouldve bought it, if the guy
wouldve been not such a dumbag.

What an idiot ... people like that deserve a slap in the face.

At work we were going to buy a 15.000 euro measurement device for measuring colours (something called a SpectroDrive) and the official seller plainly said they could not give us a demo of the device. That was the end of it - we went to an unofficial seller who COULD get hold of a demo device for us. How can people today think you'll buy something so expensive without getting to see it? And like with second hand goods, companies don't have consumer protection so you can't get your money back after you sign the contract.
