|
 |
So, yesterday my KMplayer started crashing. It's not a crash on startup, not a crash on loading movies but a timed crash.
It's like i open it up, and if i mouse over the kmplayer window the mouse cursor changes to the loading one (arrow / circle next to it) and after a time of 20-30 seconds it crashes.
Tried uninstalling/reinstalling, tried system restore point. Same thing over and over again. I just don't get it.
Installed VLC for now but any ideas what could persist even through a system restore?

what version
what Dlls of codec it used
what os
what updates
and if your on Aero or not ... Aero renders your desktop in 3D and Classic uses GDi software mode ... or something like that , the thing is GDi software mode adds V-synch lag in movies and some codec don't like GDI...
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ff684176(v=vs.85).aspx
and on what power mode your on... again some in-build codec dont like dynamic overcloking that Windows Power feature does ... your Desktop PC should always be in HIGH PERFORMANCE MODE
we need more details

Use PotPlayer instead. It started as an attempt to copy KMP, but has improved so much over the time. KMP is just a shadow of the past.

Real time conversion to 60fps is always buggy and artifact-prone. Shit, even offline conversion is. Unless the material was shot or professionally prepared at 60 fps, any conversion is garbage.

Well latest version, updated it yesterday (after it started crashing since i was hoping the new version might fix it but.. nothing changed, same behaviour)
win 8.1
err all win updates (was missing 6 and i installed them too to see if it fixed the crashing and nope)
same codecs as 1 week ago, as 1 month ago, when everything was working fine
main problem is as mentioned before, i uninstalled/reinstalled and even restored to 2 restore points made few days ago.
Doesn't bother me that i use VLC now, i just don't understand what could have happened all of the sudden since it worked fine for a month now.
And like i said, it didn't crash on startup, didn't crash on loading movie, it just crashed like it was trying to load something every time and failed after same amount of time passed. KMplayer has a lot of online crap added on top of it so maybe it was that? Dno really.
Edit: i could even open movies with it so it's not like it was frozen, just that it kept "loading" even though the movie was playing and crashed after same time.

You can use the SVP codecs with PotPlayer as well. I have it as an option you can toggle essentially.
With that said, I dislike this option with my movies and TV shows. There is visible artifacting at times - true, but mainly it's the feel of it. I usually use it for 3D movies when needed.
