Sat on my toilet while taking a dump and noticed some small flying bug just minding it's own business. I though "ok, dunno what the fuck that is, but can't be anything too bad" And when i went to the kitchen it's a god damned swarm of these pesky midget flies everywhere. Used the vacuum, but the vacuum cleaner worked for 5 minutes and it died, and now these will reign as they wish. FML!

That's it exactly. There was a banana on the fridge inside a plastic bag which had become liquid. I haven't smelled it, but i guess and hope that was the source. Threw it away pretty quickly after discovery Razz

You got some pesky fruit flies!

Quote:
A commonly suggested method is to pour a little bit of apple cider vinegar in a cup and add a teaspoon of dish washing liquid. (The vinegar attracts the flies, while the soap apparently retards surface tension and causes the flies to sink rather than float on the vinegar.) To complete the DIY trap, top it off with a bit of cling wrap as shown in this post from Sew Tara. Stretch the film across the top of the container, using an elastic band to hold it tight. Poke three or four small holes in the top and any fruit flies that find the liquid but don’t drown will still be trapped under the cling wrap.

It was behind some old boxes (empty lasagna box etc) which i didn't bother with, so i never noticed it since it didn't smell.

Going with the apple vinegar trick now! Only a fraction remains after my vacuuming though, but i'll not be satisfied until ever single fly is gone

Well, unwashed is one thing, but i would lie if i said the apartment is perfectly clean. The banana though was something that really shouldn't have happened. Well, it's gone now, and all seems to be going well. 2 of these shits have been caught in my trap already so it most certainly works!

Well, some of these flies are ensteins among fruitflies. While like 10+/- lies dead in the bowl, a few keeps hovering above or ignoring it completely. Hopefully the vacuum cleaner works again later on.

just put another glass of vinegar a few meters away from that one, with no dead flies in it to warn it. Very Happy

Fruit flies. They get everywhere and can smell decomposing fruit from mars.

Throwing the fruit away with the trash will cure your problem. And get some fly spray.

I had 2 sources actually. Had oranges lying in the corner of my kitchen bench. I was impulsive when i bought 3 as i've never been much of a fan eating the orange itself. the 2 remaining oranges looked completely fine, but they had rotted underneath. Tossed them out the same time as the banana Razz

Not really a big crisis, but very annoying. Been infiltrated by a damnable biting fly, never really been bitten by what looks like a regular fly before. Problem is that this little shit is perhaps twice as quick as regular flies. I've been hunting it for an hour now :XX

Edit: Well, seems like these fucks are easier to kill mid air, thats how i killed it. Hope it's the last i see of this kind...

Wasn't a botfly. I looked at it after i killed it and it looks like a stable fly. Farmers have been polluting the town with fertilizer smell, so maybe that has attracted them, i dunno.
