somehow theres more people interested abt this game than any others. Either this game is superhyped or most people have no idea what the game is about. I am surprised to see people with strong fps love showing interest in this turn based, micromanagement, empire building, resource managing, works on a PIII like graphics, game....Very Happy

Seems to work ok on my ye olde ati 9800 pro, though I’ve only been playing for an hour or so.
First impressions seem very good. I like the clean new interface.
Getting Dr. Spock to do the opening intro was a masterstroke, really sets the game up well.
Anyhow only time will tell if my settler farm tactics work as well as in the last civ game.
Time to break out the hobnobs and get down to some serious gaming before my retail copy arrives on nov 4.Smile

I didn't hear Spock, are you sure it was in the intro and not the tutorial?

its the intro to the single player game.
a majestic bit of narration

All I did was load it up in the newest version of Alcohol 120%. I just made sure to change the default values for the driver and such when I installed.

IS that important when mounting images like this? Ive always used default cause I didnt know any better and had no problems that I know of. What exactly does changing those drivers do anyway? I know its off-topic, but was just a little curious...

Great game anyways, just finished my first game, got Space Race victory after exactly 2 hours. Just for fun i did "One more turn" and recieved what i needed for Diplomatic victory as well.
Making some food now and then im off to make another game at a higher difficulty.

Copied from elsewhere - it works for me.
--------------------------------------------------------

I was having the same problem as everyone. Here is what i did.

1. mount it in Alcohol OR Daemon with NO emulation options on.

2. run sd4hide.exe and click HIDE

3. CLOSE sd4hide.exe

4. Click the game link on the desktop and start with the tutorial =p
------

A REALLY important step missing was the CLOSE part. With it open i always crashed after the splash.

does anyone think the pace of the game has become too fast? thus losing historical feel?
It seems fans wanted the pace increased but there is still an option for a slower epic pace in the options.

got the game up and running np. Mounted in DTools with V-CDHide (1.0.0.4 if it matters). But holy crap the music in the intro movies skips like a mofo. It's really odd because there's no hardware activity while the movies are playing (the 2k games and firaxis logos). I hate Bink video because it's craptacular, and I'm wondering if this is the result of a codec issue (I don't have any codec packs installed so I don't see why it would be a problem). I've tried setting Hardware acceleration for my card down to None, but that didn't help.

They play fine outside of the game (using the RADTools bink player), except they have massive video flicker.

I don't understand why (aside from liscensing, heh) game companies won't use a standard like MPEG2 or even basic AVI for in game movies. At least we wouldn't have stupid problems like this with Bink shit.

what i'm saying is that civ 4 is faster than civ 3 so an average game can be finished in 3 hours instead of 6. In the gamespot review they mention that the game speed in civ 4 has been tweaked and as a result it takes less time to play a game from start to finish. So what I'm asking is has anyone felt this to be a big issue and whether it spoils the game, since the "historical feel" is less pronouced than in civ 3, ie there are no distinct historical periods but rather a continuous fast flow that make the specific historical context less prominent. I can't make it clearer than that, I can't spell everything out, this is not kindergarten.
