Was excited by this project and supported it via kickstarter but lost most of my enthusiasm when i heard about implementing an FPS element.

Stick to what you know and specialise in what the people originally wanted. ATM he's trying to be everything to everyone.

Quote:
We know that Star Citizen is an incredibly ambitious project, after all its basically several high fidelity AAA games all rolled into one; a MMO Space Sim, a First Person Shooter, a rich Single Player story and a fully-fledged Trading and Economy game..

Ambitious is putting it mildly.

It takes years to develop a high quality product in just one of those genres, good luck doing that in all of them... Laughing

I just hope:
- the Single Player campaign is a proper, engaging one (not just a bunch of random quests);
- it can be played offline;
- an ISOdemo pops out so I can test the final performance and quality of the game;

If these three things will happen, I'll be happy to buy it at the Summer Steam Sales 2025, two years after the whole project is completed.

So, something unexpected has just happened.

I haven't played AC for a while, given that it is a smelly pile of uselessshite.

But, having got this cheapy TM HOTAS X I though I should at least give it a try.

So, there I am, fiddling with the control mapping, loading it up got into a drone match and....

.... I liked it... Surprised

I don't know if it's the latest patch or something, but suddenly the majority of the hideous juddering and framerate issues had gone. Sure, this was no 60fps, but it was certainly hovering between 45-60 - and that even with combat going on.

And all this on Very High settings.

One thing is for sure - this game NEEDS a decent joystick setup. Gamepads and mice are totally useless for this game - I was actually enjoying the combat and flight - still a little rough in places, but on the whole... damn.

I have not changed my mind on the overall feelings towards SC and the money machine it has turned into. But hell if this isn't possibly the best space combat game I have EVER played suddenly Neutral

Does this mean you're now using your eyes and your brain when you evaluate something?

If you keep this up, I'll try forgetting all your previous emotionally driven bile and hatred Wink

The Thrustmaster Hotas X and Flight Stick X are actually surprisingly good for their price, if anyone else is looking for a cheap joystick Very Happy

I can find the stick (which does have a throttle slider) for 20-25 EUR here, the HOTAS (which has a proper throttle) for 40 EUR. Both sticks twist, which is kinda nice for the rudder. Bit wobbly, but other than that solid build quality.

We need Ubisoft to join in order to ensure that we have at least six collector's editions with different DLC attachements, and they could also handle creation and scripting of the live pre-release game demos at conventions. If everything else fails they will try save the project by making the game look and play exactly like Assassin's Creed.

We need BioWare to join in order to ensure we have believable characters, not-too-interesting storylines and romance options involving all alien races and across all known sexual preferences in the game. BioWare will bring their proprietary next-gen tech to Star Citizen allowing players to Pause their game mid-combat, while paused players can either make tactical choices, go take a dump or make a sandwich: Its all about player choices and while the game is paused, your choices are endless. You could even call your friend's mom.

We need Gearbox to outsource the core of game development to small unknown third-world game development studios in order to lower quality, save money and then devote a team to only create fake gameplay videos we could bring to press meetings and interviews and bullshots to post on the official website in order to create hype and pre-order sales.

Dont do it....

If you want a cheap stick that will LAST you and be accurate then get the T16000M,
the hotas X and stick X do not have hall sensors or are sloppy made. Once dust and use kicks in over time you will have ur ship moving by itself without ur hand even on the stick..

There is only so much deadzone adjustment in game software you can use before your throw limitations kick in and you are out classed in battle.

The T16000M may not have the throttle control shit for your other hand but its a far superior joystick.

Don't worry mate, I wasn't going for either of those, I've got an X52 Pro setup Very Happy

But my cousin has had a Flight Stick X for at least 5 years now and it's still fine.

For those only looking for a joystick the 16000M is indeed the best value for money though. Build quality for that money is ridiculous.

I would say no to the 16000M, it's shyte. I bought it after my Sidewinder died. It's coil / spring is to rigid, fluid motion is nigh impossible with that thing.

Stay clear from the 16000M.

Challenge Accepted

Once he learns to draw and make something funny, I'll laugh. Failed Kickstarters is just a sad thing. Kickstarter specifically is more than video games and it existed before crowdfunding video games became a thing. There are scammers and bad project planners everywhere, in every industry, then there are those who genuinely try to make something decent with the money they receive. Those really get the cock in ass treatment now as Kickstarter popularity is bleeding.

I still hold out hope for some video game Kickstarter projects, larger and smaller ones too. Project Eternity and Torment could turn out okay, then there's Elite and Star Citizen although Star Citizen I guess suffers from not knowing when to stop and it rubs people the wrong way.

If Star Citizen had called its Pledges "Pre-Orders" instead, it'd feel a lot better for a lot of people, I think. Star Citizen is surfing the crowdfunding wave way beyond the kick-starting point of a project, when indeed at this stage it is just selling pre-order copies like any other game.

- They've been mentioning since the start that the Squadron 42 (single player) part of the game will be playable offline. I'm assuming this has not changed.

- It's not just a bunch of random quests. It's a Chris Roberts game, that usually means a storyline. Last time i heard they had a 1000-page script and they plan on using motion capture (including that face/performance-capture thing).

Looking forward to the SQ42 portion of the game.

The question is amusing, given how everyone seems to give it a big fat zero at pre-alpha stage around here Wink

But, no, that was the imaginary IGN score for the Kickstarter project in the cartoon.

And sorry, it is rather believable when IGN is referenced xD

I couldn't care less about Dogfighting either, except as a showcase for the technology. Last version (12.5) was quite a bit more polished - and they're making great progress.

PC Gamer handed Dragon Age 2 a 94/100. Nobody can recover from that. (IGN gave it an 8.5).

The best places to get info about games are the forums.
