So I was really looking forward to getting everything set up with my new computer, and since i got a 64bit CPU this time I installed XP x64.
First I get alot of shit from the nForce drivers, and now Daemon Tools doesn't support x64, I had no idea.
What the fuck am I supposed to use now?
I haven't had much joy from the new system so far...

Neither work on xp64 from what I understand. Probably wont untill Microsoft gets it's head out of it's ass and makes some sort of push for the os. Most drivers are beta, you are better off going back to plain vanilla XP. I have a 64 bit cpu too and my time running xp 64 lasted all of 6 hours before I reformatted.

DT4 will work on X64
Alsohol's mounting system is baded on the DT code, so Alcohol wont until DT does.

think i read somewhere that DT4 is pretty much around the corner, il try to find that link again..
To threadstarter, a lot of "crucial" software doesnt support X64 yet, that is the reason i havent installed it yet.. i am still waiting for the software companies to catch up!

Got round to installing it a few months back, its the fastest, most robust os I've used from MS. There's no way in hell I'd go back to xp 32-bit.
DT4 will be out soon. If not this month then next. Just have patience. You can use the crappy PhantomDVD or filedisk to at least mount images. Course you could always just extract the iso's and install, doesn't take that long.
Compatibility wise, every single game so far works in x64. The only programs that don't are those that are 16-bit and software that attempts to install 32-bit device drivers. That's why old DT, firewalls and suchlike won't work in x64. To use a 64-bit os *gasp* you need 64-bit drivers! Crazy eh?
Haven't encountered any problems whatsoever with drivers, as all I need are ATI 64-bit Catalyst and nForce 64-bit, installed perfectly fine.
And yes, I'm also an x64 fanboy.

I couldn't agree less, later today i will uninstall this piece of shit OS and jump on the disc then throw it away.
Nothing seems to work as it should, feels like i'm gonna get a BSOD at any second, atleast that's what i get when i either put in my soundcard (yes i have to use the crappy one that's welded on the MB) or try to upgrade ANY drivers.
Alot of games i've tried don't work on x64, and i'm no programmer but it seems to me that if a program doesn't support 64bit processing, why can't windows just run it in 32 instead? Maybe it does, but it still doesn't work.

Lot's of people can't seem to get Windows XP 32-bit to work either, 64-bit is no different for some folk.
Absolute crap to say nothing works as it should. If your using your "crappy" onboard audio, I guess you've not installed the 64-bit nForce audio driver properly as it doesn't BSOD here nor on anyone elses that I know of.
By saying ... and i'm no programmer but it seems to me that if a program doesn't support 64bit processing, why can't windows just run it in 32 instead? Maybe it does, but it still doesn't work... it's clear you have absolutely no understanding as to how x64 works or even how a 64-bit processor executes 64-bit instructions. Simply put 64-bit windows emulates 32-bit instructions via MS's SysWOW64 (system windows on windows64) layer.
The only software that does not work that I have come across are as I said 16-bit programs/games (16-bit is non-existant in xp 64-bit and about bloody time), firewalls, virus scanners and any other util that attempts to access the os at a low level. e.g DaemonTools. Thankfully, companies are updating their software to support 64-bit - for example, now Symentec Corp Antivirus is 64-bit, AVG supports 64-bit, AVG's firewall supports 64-bit, Tiny Firewall supports 64-bit, O&O Defragger supports 64-bit, Diskeeper supports 64-bit and so on.
Nothing more annoying that putting down a fantastic achievement from MS by someone who can't even install nForce drivers correctly.

Well it seems i'm not the only one that has problem with the nForce drivers on x64, it's a known problem, if you don't believe me i'll dig up the source again.
Anyways i've installed regular 32 XP now again, and now everything works perfectly.

I'm sure you could dig up some issues, but the same also can be said for VIA / nForce chipset driver problems in 32-bit as well.

Daemon Tools v4 delayed
Ok, folks - as most of you probably already know, we have to delay v4 for around 14 days due to a serious bug.
We worked hard to get it done for a October release, unfortunately shit happens from time to time.
From now on all threads concerning the release date of v4 will be deleted, and people who still complain will get an extra time out from the forum for the next 14 days. Seriously we have more important things to do, so keep it quiet and let us do our work.
If this doesn't work out, we will shut down the forum registration for a while - so it's up to you."
Oh well, another fortnight wait. Lets just hope it doesn't turn into a Duke Nukem Forever title :\
