i'm confused. So what will they call this game? prequel, sequel?
i would -personally- want to see prequel, more like early mass effect universe story. But as always biofuck is too lazy to use their goddamn imagination.
problem with a prequel is that you wouldn't play as a human, and i think bioware operates under the assumption that you cant strongly empathise with a character that isn't an idealised version of you, or something
but a sequel, after destroying all the relays, i mean... wtf are we going to do, have an epic space adventure where we piddle about our own solar system, mining planets? but i already stripped em dry in the previous game!!
Yeah everyone wants sequel but forget Bioware fucked it up pretty much with ME3 endings and its almost impossible to make it playable with relays destroyed, hell some of endings even resulted in other tech destroyed also so what would it be sword fightning ? Still its Bioware fuckup.

Prequel would be much more reasonable.
Its ok you can always just have the mass relays rebuild. Its not like there are any consistency with Bioware's latest titles. DA2 they forced Anders (who I fucking murdered) back. Then of course ME3 they completely changed the ending. I won't be surprised if they ever do a sequel to ME3 they would retcon as they please.

But the question is if players want Bioware to stick with their previous choices even if they werent the best or just forget about them and make next game without giving crap how previous one ended ?
Cause you know, many people(also in here) bitch when next game storyline is incoherent with previous one ending So make up your mind will you
I think me4 will be about finding some until-now magically undiscovered tech, that they superglue onto a ship that warps you during a test-flight to some undiscovered part of the galaxy, Star Trek voyager style
In other words, I think it'll be some bullshit setup they'll rush through to set up and start their story in the hopes that the plot will kick in before you've had a chance to think about it too much.
Personally I'd love to have seen a prequel set maybe a decade before mass effect, maybe even earlier dealing with the whole first contact shit.
Unless they are planning some massive retcon of the first three games, the art style would suggest it will be set a fair amount of time afterwards. They seem to be leaning towards a more sleek/organic look, versus the more rigid/boxy/mechanical look of the first series.
Nope, been staying away because the game is ages away from release.
Edit: wow, that conceptual gameplay for the mako looked phenomenal, I'd love it if it played like that in the game... Quite exciting actually... Makes me want to replay the first game again, actually... Wow...
Relays can be rebuilt (they even showed them being rebuilt in some of the endings) and they made it clear that races weren't really trapped, at least not in a serious kind of a way.
Either way, the sequel can be set far enough into the future for this not to matter. If they want a fresh take with new story it likely will indeed be in the future so the Reapers would be nothing but a distant memory.
Although they could just go with an alternate universe approach...
Well, whatever they do they cannot be more ridiculous than bringing back Sheppard from the dead after he fell from fucking space onto a fucking planet.
Some time passed since I played ME so my memory might be wron but... Werent relays built by some unknown/extinct species and everyone were just using it without knowing much about the technology and how it works etc. ? If so it would be kind of hard to rebuilt it or at least a lot of time would have to pass for someone understand it and rebuild.

Technically I don't think he fell onto the planet. Probably would have been pretty crispy in that case. More likely he was an ice cube floating in orbit.

That makes it even worse than I thought. I guess you have to give them that at least. No matter how shit you think their stuff is, they always manage to surprise you with worse.
As low as my opinion is, I actually really enjoyed the story/music/atmosphere in the three games.. it's just the gameplay elements that annoyed me as ME1 was perfect but it all went downhill from there
I don't know if the book goes into more details about it but the few details in the game - Mass Effect 2 - and the DLC mentions the body of Shephard being in very poor shape with basically only some remains having survived, how exactly sticking some needle and injecting fluid into a pile of meat would bring back the original body is never explained.
(Well they do say they reconstructed most everything come to think of it, guess Shepard being so thickheaded ensured the brain was intact enough to bring back memories too. )
(That or he was smart enough to keep his helmet on. )
EDIT: No idea if canon Shepard is a he or a she come to think of it, maybe both since Bioware showed a female version for ME3, however that would work.
(But according to Bioware "canon" Shepard never got access to the DLC content and thus missed a lot of stuff so having a save for import is pretty useful to experience everything in the sequels, good thing that Rick / Gibbed made a save utility for that and Dragon Age 2.)
They probably would have wanted to tie his reanimation in the third part but since the Lead writer left and they fucked it up so badly I don't know what to say.
I still have a bad taste in my mouth for the third part that I lost all faith in Bioware making a consistent game universe.
Would have liked if they started from scratch with a new universe instead of milking what is essentially a corpse. Oh well...thank you EA/Bioware.
What have you been smoking, i wonder? All 3 games were fantastic. Can't wait to see what they come up with next.
Mjeh, most people I know rate nr 1 high and the rest on a declining scale. Fantastic wasn't the word they used for them
Who cares about other people ? They always find a way to bitch about certain aspects of any game.
First 2 games were exceptional, and the 3rd one was good aswell, regardless of those shitty endings. Personally, I enjoyed the games alot, and hopefully I'll enjoy the next game from the Mass Effect universe. Also, I liked ME2 more than ME1 and I'm sure I'm not the only one in this forum to have the same opinion.
