Germany deserved to be champion.
Argentina played very well too, better than in any previous match, but showed overall less than the germans. They missed at least 3 golden opportunities. Argentinian media is blaming the referee, as usual.
Next WC Argentina should have a great chance if they continue the path. (Messi will be 32 then).
After the debacle of Brasil I guess that only 3 players will be safe for a next new team: David Luiz, Neymar and Oscar. The rest if the new coach wants to have a chance, must be out and replaced by new ones.
And for Deutschland, weiter so, jungs! They play a nice offensive football that I'm glad that at last imposed itself in this tournament. Overall, it was the best finale that I remember. I highly doubt that they will win the next world tournament, but they have many young talents, so continuity will be no problem.
On the other hand, Messi didn't deserved that golden award. And from his look and attitude he knew that. I still think that Robben deserved that price.
I don't know the current state of Holland. The eternal candidate. Have they a replacement agenda?
And what's the current state of Italy? The newcomers didn't showed anything in this tournament, besides their usual good defense.
I'm gonna miss this great football for the next 4 coming years

Without Robbens damn divings and faking i would agree to the golden ball but after seeing some stats i personally think Philip Lahm deserved it more. He had the most precise passing of all and that was kind of a key element to get the cup. On the other side i dont think anyone really cares about that golden ball.

*posts the sinking Titanic pic*
We're going through the same scenario that Germany had to face back in 2000, with a whole system to rebuild, proper investments to be made, with the only difference being, we're without money. We're also without a proper federation, manager, talents and even the 95% of the stadiums are obsolete. It's not looking very good, but the situation could still be salvageable if someone actually did something now, before it's too late

He pretty much only lost his job because our major TV network (globo) blamed him for everything, in order to hide their own dirt.
The thing is our whole football league is completely full of corruption, and that network together with CBF (brazilian football confederation) are responsible for it. Such is the state of things that we are not even training new stars as we used to (see Neymar for instance, our best athlete is just average in Barça, and the rest of our national team is even worse), and obviously brazil is way behind europe when it comes to tactics, organization, etc...
The hopes for 2018 are non-existent... |
That's very sad to hear. Now, with so many emerging teams in the south american zone (CONMEBOL) do you think Brazil could be in danger of not qualifying for a World Cup for the first time in their history? Taking into account what Chile and Colombia showed in this World Cup, that Argentina was a great finalist, Uruguay aren't anyone's sandbag either (especially if Suarez plays), and that even my country, which used to be bullied by everyone else only 15 years ago, and which has never been in a World Cup gets closer and closer everytime (we finished 6th very close to the 5th Uruguay in the last qualifiers and in our last 2 official matches against Brazil we managed to hold them scoreless), it all could paint a worrying landscape for the historical football giant.
I expect the next south american qualifiers to be the most disputed in history, by the way.

Lack of talents is usually something temporary, I bet soon(ish) some new youngsters will pop out again. Lack of organization/corruption is a big problem, though, and the fact that the Campeonato Brasileiro isn't as competitive as it used to be in the past doesn't help either. When you don't invest money anymore and don't have a plan for the future, things are destined to go south, it's inevitable. This is exactly what I was talking about before, the brazilian situation imo is scarily close to the italian one.

I think we would have a big chance of not qualifying for the next WC if FIFA wasn't so corrupt. Everyone wants to see Brazil in the next WC (especially after the fiasco )... and CBF has plenty of bribe money for this kind of thing... so it's hard to believe we could be out.
It is interesting to see the growth of the rest of latin america, while brazil is lagging behind. Everyone else is trying to be more professional, to work more on tactics and team play, while we are stuck in the last century thanks to some corrupt old farts...

It usually is temporary, but in our case the situation is worse because we are not investing in training young kids anymore. Neymar himself had to be trained by a personal coach when he was a kid, because his club didn't have a decent program (and it's one of the biggest clubs here...). All they care about is to make a quick buck by selling the kids to european teams as soon as possible, even if the cash isn't as high as it would be with a better trained athlete...
I think Barcelona V Santos (8-0) last year shows pretty well how outdated brazilian football is. That and the world cup obviously

Wait... you can finish 5th and still qualify for WC over there? Wtf Fifa (still not as useless as the Asian qualifying way)
About the talents and structure, it can be turned in a couple of years if they invest (Belgium went through it for a bit more than a decade even tho they knew where the problem was), but to first have it better it needs to get really dire. Otherwise you'll get half arsed measures that won't bring the change that is really needed.
The fact that Italy is struggling with money is going to help for the future, in the end they'll be forced to invest more in their youth system. And they still are far off from a real crisis in football due to players still regarding the league as a step up from most other leagues.
