I dont know what the fuck Ive done but my back is killing me, especially when I try to walk.

I got up off the sofa like 5 hours ago and couldnt walk! I dunno if Ive pulled a muscle or slipped a disc but its fucking painful. Im only 34 but I feel fucking 84 when I try walking at the moment! I must look like an 84 year old too! If I dont move, Im ok but leaning forwards or backwards is really uncomfortable and walking is fucking agony at times. Im meant to be taking my daughter out on a day trip on Tuesday and my girlfriend thinks its an elaborate ploy to get out of it! I currently have 2 days off work but there's no way I can work like this. Ill see what its like tomorrow and consider the doctors. Im sure Ill have to pay them a visit anyway to authorise time off work. Think I might sleep on the floor tonight. Hard flat surface might help.

Fuck I dont need this! Mad

If it's a simple muscle strain, some rest and Ibuprofen can soothe the pain in a couple days, but there's the annoying possibility that it could be something more serious like herniated disks and stuff like that. If tomorrow you still can't walk, then it's time to see the doctor. Smile

I really hope it is as simple as muscle strain coz anything I do is a goddamn ordeal at the moment! Ive been taking paracetamol and ibruprofen for the last 9 hours but I cant say its helping. Still need to sleep yet so Im keen to see how I feel afterwards.

Most probably.

You should at the very least start doing stretching exercises in the morning, if you're not going to gym...

- take more ibuprofen, or stronger dexibuprofen until its over (could take 2-3 more days of suffering) be easy and reduce activity but don't lay down too much or it will take longer
- when you're better, holding static push up position is a very effective exercise to strengthen the back (hold 2-5 minutes)
- get a better chair for office thats easier on your back (or ask to be given one)

Back pain sucks, I have a lot of it in my lower-mid section.

Like others have suggested take some ibuprofen for temporary relief, try some light stretching exercises, try to improve posture when sitting/standing.

If necessary to to a specialist. Good luck!

See a doctor if the pain is still there tomorrow morning. I know my doctors and some others have same day appointments. I just have to phone the minute they open and I'll get an appointment for that day, but the appointments go really quickly.

Maybe it's a trapped nerve? My brother got up off the sofa once and was hit with sudden pain. It was so bad that he found it difficult to walk. iirc it went away after several hours.

Install a doorway pull up bar (there are ones which don't require drilling, you just tighten them up) and hang on them for 15-20 seconds several times a day. This did wonders for my lower back.

Yep, just hanging around for some time helps me too.
Or make Romanian Deadlifts. The more weight you take, the better it will feel in your back.
But first go and see a doctor, not that you break your back with that exercise Laughing

Thanks for the all the replies guys. Some good advice there. The very next day I was able to walk but the pain is still very much there. The day after that if felt like it was getting worse. At times I limp as I walk. I actually have a week off work coming up so I will not be required to sit down 8 hours per day. If it remains the same after that week, I will be going to the doctors.

Damn Headshot, sorry to hear that. Hope it's nothing serious (I have not one, but two herniated disks so I perfectly know what you've going through, and it does suck..a lot!)

Thanks dude. Herniated disks sound pretty horrific!

So last Sunday, I sat up off the sofa and pulled a muscle in my back or at least that's what I think I did. I was practically crippled and could not walk. Although I have been wincing and limping all week and taking paracetamol and Ibruprofen, the pain has been becoming steadily bearable.

That was 6 days ago and I was making a good recovery up until earlier. Today whilst trying to get dressed, I over stretched and my back has gone again. At the moment I can't walk again. I had to call in sick to work but thankfully have the next two days off and a week off from next Friday so that will be essential recovery time for me.

My Dad told me to be careful several times but I can't believe how easy it was for this to happen again! Just feels like I'm reliving the past 6 days over again[

Fucking back :/

Aw, have you seen a doctor yet? I think it's definitely time to consider that, X-rays for example could clarify if it's just the muscles or if something else is involved. There isn't much that medicine can do for this annoyance, but a specific treatment+exercises can help a lot. (depending on what's your condition of course).

Well today after a night of sleep on my back, I can walk again albeit slowly and the pain is far more bearable. It was almost a week before my relapse but I just need to be super careful about how much I move and stretch to avoid repeating the injury. If I can keep to slow and steady for as long as possible I think I can beat this. Once recovered Ill look at exercises to strengthen my back.

Like i already mentioned: The probably best way to strengthen your back is one of the many variations of the deadlift.
Classic Deadlift is for the whole back, while for example Romanian Deadlift is mostly for the lower back.
BUT don't do those without somone watching you, if you do them right. They are not called Deadlifts without a reason Laughing

They are free and take up 30 minutes of your time. Besides, maybe he NEEDS medical attention for his back to get better. We have no idea what is wrong with his back, we can only guess.

Yeah thats true we have the NHS in the UK which is free although its actually paid for by the working british public. And no I havent seen a doctor as yet. Ill see how my road to recovery progresses. After last Sunday when the injury first occurred, I was making good progress with each day. I just need to be aware of my limits until Im fully healed.

Contracted back pain from you Sad

Damn Internet!

For me it's luckily not that bad yet (had a slipped disc 2 years ago so I know how horrible it can be). But it's steadily getting worse. Something to do with my work chair. Around 5-6 hours in the day, I can barely walk anymore; I have to walk like a grandpa, back hunched. Mornings start almost fine for me though.
