So, I feel it is time to get an SSD. Was thinking of getting the 840 Evo Basic edition (comes without anything else besides manuals and the SSD itself). it's 120 GB, perfect for an OS and a game or two partition, seems pretty decent where price is concerned, 75 euros. I can't seem to get myself to buy anything else, except maybe a Crucial M500, but it says on the site the 840 EVO has a much higher writing speed.
Any other recommendations? This size is pretty much what I can afford for now.
I could also maybe squeeze a little for a Kingston V300 240GB but I get the feeling it's very subpar, I know nothing about SSD's.

Defo the 840 EVO. As if there were any doubts. I could also get an Intel 730, but it's expensive as fuck.

I'd get a 'slow' 256GB SSD instead of a 'fast' 128GB one. I've gone from a 128GB intel to a Samsung 256GB, I see no difference in speeds at all except benchmarks. So unless you plan on benching all day and masturbating to the speeds, get the biggest SSD possible in your budget. I got the Samsung in a deal, I wouldn't pay the full price for it.
SSD's are extremely fast, only buy the fastest if you plan to use that speed.

The Crucial MX100 is better than the M500 and almost as good as their "premium" M550 drive, despite being cheaper than both.
In the UK the 256GB MX100 is £74 on Amazon. I don't know about other countries though, or what that is in euros.
The MX100 is currently the price/performance king.

I'm going to give that a go and keep the thread posted.
EDIT: Nowhere to be found in Romania :C

120GB is way to small. Recommend minimum 250GB. I went with OCZ Vertex 256GB (Toshiba Controller). Fast speeds and great reliable controller from Toshiba. $80 Shipped US

I'll just echo what everyone else has said. I had a 120gb drive on my machine. It was simply to small. Just save yourself the hassle and buy a 250+gb drive. They don't cost that much more these days and it's worth every penny.

But if you don't plan to store much on it (some essential programs + OS) is 120GB enough?
I'll probably be buying SSD next month so I'm starting to look a bit at SSDs and their performance etc.

Gonna try and find a good 250 GB one once I have all the money in one place. Although I am certainly getting an MX100 once/if it releases in Romania, if not, it's pretty clear the 840 EVO is the way to go.

Although mine is very small (90Gb) but I do alright, have linux+win8, apps and one game installed on it.
So yeah, 120 is plenty to have the OS + the game you play the most, maybe a couple of games. |
I'm not playing any games anyways so that's not the issue
