played the first season (4 races) and this far i actually like it...
I like that you can change more settings, that the cars are more realistic and you actually need to think how to use your breaks. At first, coming from grid 2 (steam sale ) I hit every wall in the corner because my car would not stop like they usually do in arcade racer.
Graphics... do no whats wrong with em? They look descent and nice... nothing special, nothing bad.
The AI seems more fun this time. Its nice to c them making mistakes and not driving 100% perfectly all the time (grid 2 , that thing pissed me off because the AI is like a train on rails).
In this game you an pump some one off the track and they will go at the end of the pack not right behind you on the next corner. I actually have seen how the AI loses control and rolls over in the middle of the race.. And rammed the walls of a tight corner like human players in MP usually do....
This far it seems nice, but i miss the toca race driver 2003 pitstops and other goodies. ... like weather efects and tons of different tracks to race on.
... strange... at the last lap near the finish line the AI sudenly gets a nitro boost all the time. Or so it seems. In one sec they are behind me and the other sec they are trying to bush past me... always at the last lap near the finish line
Yeah, the upgrade from Grid 2 is noticeable and I'm glad they actually went back to Grid 1's style, but honestly, everything feels like a lazy re-hash, made with a low budget schedule. Which would also explain the lack of a PS4/bone version.
BTW, looks like there's a mod that eliminates the blurrovision-based cockpit. And guess what:
it's sad, it seems that codemasters have the talent to do great games but still they manage to fuck things up somehow... why cant we have another toca race driver 2003
it had: weather, night, pitstop. dont remember about the internal view tho...
Grid 1 had nice internal view... why cant they make it into this 3'rd game
^^ with a AMD R9 280X 3Gb? People all over the place will say it's your CPU.. I was just reading about just this in another forum. Intel gets the better frames they will tell you. I will say I have a 290x with my old 2600k... And well without vsync, 100 frames max, with 80 frames avg. Stutters quite a bit without sync on. So avg 59.87 with sync on. Try your card on a buddies system? Or can you try it on another sys?
2600k, GigaByte R9 290x, 8 gis of ram on Windows 7 X64
Shit 2 have the best cockpits so far for PC. All tools on the dash are working, you can see your feet working, you can adjust (with mods) your view/seat so you can see the whole dash including both mirrors without the need to move your mouse/pad around and the textures are really nice.
First race. I went through all the options, was already disappointed at the lack of sensitivity and deadzone settings. Set up my driver profile (which they ask you to do again after the first race ), turned off pretty much all assists (only assist I always keep on is ABS) so I'm at 50% XP boost or something like that. Now, keeping that in mind, here's the video of that first race (ignore the bumps and such, I misjudged the brakes several times ). Wait for 0:42..
Yeah. So all assists off and stuff is fine, except that you don't have a speedometer, tachometer, or anything really, since the cockpit view is THAT bad. I guess I should've checked in here before I turned everything off, what the fuck were Codemasters thinking?
Aside from that though, I'm with ixi. The handling sits somewhere between GRID 1 and TOCA 3, but to me this is what these games should be like. This is what NFS used to be. Far from being a sim, but you do need to brake and steer properly, you can actually lose grip and spin out. Playing bumper cars doesn't work.
The AI is decent enough; they try to stick to their line as much as they can without making contact, although as you can also see in the video above there are moments where it goes "FUCK YOU" and just slams into you, as well as some weird braking points (which caused me to kiss the car ahead of me ).
Overall it all does feel a bit dated but I might use this as a nice distraction from all the more serious games
Edit: oh and yes, those sounds in the video are some device disconnecting/connecting. It's got something to do with the latest Nvidia driver but fuck knows what and it's annoying as hell.

I think it bothers me when I can play games like bf4 on Ultra at 60fps with no issues. In Mantle mode - dx I might get the odd drop, but thats still on Ultra.
I suppose GRID was written with Intel in mind. I'm not spending stupid money just to please a select number of developers.
Codemasters are going the way most companies seem to be - produce a game based on hype, promises - and only delivering the most basic they can get away with, ensuring that they maximise sales instead of delivering the best game possible.
Game design has become an easy way to make vast amounts of profit, based on very old previous successes, and has lost the art of producing longevity and quality - as this would impact on next year's sales due to not showing much improvement.
Classic example is FIFA. Back in the day, FIFA 98 was arguably the epitome of football. The success EA had with that one game was insane, so they went all out to improve it. Not many years later, they found themselves scratching their heads about what to do next to make it better. So they didn't. They just changed the roster, added a few minor tweaks here and there and released it. Noone cared because it was obviously going to be awesome.
Now, with FIFA 15, there is pretty much ZERO difference to 14, 13, 12 etc etc, just a minor tweak to the wonderful game engine (that we get to finally experience....), anad AFAIK, thats pretty much it.
I understand they did the same wth Madden, their Golf game etc...
ALL gaming, as we know it, is pretty much gone - it's just purely about how much money can be made, rather than what is made. It's like Van Gogh painting Sunflowers today, having it be as popular as it is now, and then painting Sunflowers II - the Return, with an extra flower, and then so on...

zero difference from fifa 14 to 15?
yea man u clearly know what ur talking about.
last racing game i had fun with was shift 2 and now we get this game which is fun too.
so i don't see ur problem. it's not like a good racing game comes out every year.

Well said. After RBR it's been one shallow shite after another. Code MASTERS my ass. Can't even design a proper cockpit view anymore. What a bunch of idiots...
A good clue is the inclusion of an AVX-specific .exe, which GRID 2 also had. In GRID 2 this was ostensibly for Intel HD graphics but it is an instruction set extension seen in Sandy Bridge significantly before it was available in Bulldozer and Piledriver. When I run the generic Autosport launch, it uses the AVX .exe for my 2500K. Performance is excellent but I've never had issues with any of the Codemaster racing games in terms of performance, but it does seem to lean towards Intel a good deal.
As an aside, I'll find it amusing if a lot of people find the game unstable because of that. When overclocking AVX-enabled chips, especially the first generation ones (Sandy Bridge and Bulldozer), most people think their CPUs are stable if they pass the old stability tests, which is hilarious. An example being...my 2500K @ 4.6 GHz can pass the standard IBT at less than 1.3V, but it requires 1.35V to be stable with AVX enabled. Really, it's almost a .075V difference, explaining the ridiculous overclocks some people claim for their voltage. Since AVX wasn't commonly used (and still isn't, really), you still see a great bulk of clueless overclockers scratching their head at random crashes and blaming other things.
LOL what BS... My keys get stuck when playing this game... The game does not lag but the keys just get stuck... like key lag. Not fun when trying to take a corner but the key does not respond instead it full throttles up because the last key I pressed was the throttle... Anyone else have this mysterious bug? Can we please just have a bloody working game and not wait for patches all god damn time MAYBE fixing stuff.
28 euros of scrapped contents, gotta love Codemasters*
*modern gaming
Obviously the fact that the game isn't fully moddable has got nuthin' to do with that!
I decided to play a bit more, give it a fair shot. Nothing too bad really, until I went to the tuner class.
Not only is this shit forced on you if you want to do the career, the disciplines are utter horsecrap too. The drifting is fine, I can deal with that. I don't particularly like it as a discipline (nor did I in Shift), but it is a perfectly skill based discipline. What isn't, are the time trials and races with those same cars as well as the muscle cars. You just cannot take a corner properly with those things. Sure, I can finish first, but it is frustrating beyond belief because no one in their right mind would ever race like that, not with the cars tuned the way they are in this
And as sensitive as LT (brake) is (thanks for the sensitivity slider Codies ), the actual braking power is utter shite. I gave the tuning options a chance too, but they don't really have any effect on how the car handles; only the gear ratio option seems to do anything.
I had decided that I wasn't going to keep the game at this point, so I had a bit of fun by setting the difficulty to very easy. H-o-l-y-c-r-a-p Batman. I seriously wonder if anyone plays like this (or just easy, which is much the same). Brake assist isn't just assist, it brakes for you. I literally completed a race whilst keeping RT fully pressed and just steering. Did not let any throttle go nor did I brake and I came in first just fine. That's the CoD mode, fully on rails racing.
