a few weeks ago a friend gave me his old gtx470.
before that i had a gts 250 so it was a huge performance boost for me.

he already told me that the card gets extreme hot and loud but i wasn't aware of it how loud it will really get.
it's almost impossible to enjoy any game.
while being in idle everything is ok but as soon as i start any kind of new game it's getting crazy.
im using afterburner and put a custom fan curve in it. like this the card isn't getting over 85 degree at 80% (without 105+) but the noise...

so is there anything i can do?
ghetto mod a case fan on it? got a 92mm left lying around somewhere.
has anyone already did something like that before?
i already did new cooling paste on it and also im using afterburner with custom fan curve.
another aftermarket cooler for this "old" card would be ok if it would be under 20 euros.
found some like from arctic and there all 40 euros+. but then again i have to buy from oversea because no one in europe sells this old shit anymore.

please help

Sounds to me like your only real option is a new card tbh if you don't want to buy a new cooler for it.

You could buy a custom cooler, but honestly, then you might as well just get a GTX 750 Ti or something.

thanks for the replies.

yeah that's what i thought too... no money at the momemt so seems like i have to wait 5-6 months till i can buy one.
sad thing is that i wanted to upgrade cpu, ram, board and ssd first. Sad

until then i tried ghetto modding it just a few seconds ago.
idle temps already are down 15 degrees.
lets see how it's working in grid autosport... will post back then.

/edit

ingame seems ok too gonna stress test it later.
70-75 instead of 85-90

Dear god it looks nasty (even your improvised cooler isn't clean)

Clean it up (Compressor or Compressed air canister is easiest, otherwise get dirty with earsticks and such), get the cooler off & clean it properly... re-apply paste and I bet you don't need to ghetto mod it. That being said, nothing wrong with keeping it afterwards if it keeps the temp down a bit extra Smile

Try to make a habit of really cleaning your parts every few months. (used to do it every month, but slacked off a bit to every two/three months now )

Looking at that tiny shitty fan, I can already hear it whirring in my head. No way to fix that.

yes it's still dirty and all BUT i cleaned it a few weeks ago completly... new paste everything super clean and now it looks like this again.
the temperatures hasn't changed since i got the card so please trust me when i say this little dirt makes no difference and when only like 1-2 degrees.

and yes that is an very old and shitty fan and it was dirty for years.
but it seems like its still better then the fan on the vga...
i don't even care if it looks like shit i don't see it anyway. best thing is i don't hear it anymore. that is what counts for me.

i just wanted to test it out and not to clean my whole case.. will do that again in a few days or weeks.

men no need to make my fan down like this. poor little fella Crying or Very sad

but i completely agree with u cleaning ur parts/case every view months is a must do.
especially with my nicotin dust all over the place

thank u! Smile
don't know if i will buy it because its running very good now but when it's getting worse i will consider one or two of those.

idle 35-40 degrees
fifa 14 60-65 degrees
grid autosport 70-75

can't complain with those temperatures... no more super small jet fan running at 80%.

I hope you are still running that old fan with minimum speed or you will burn your VRM.
