OK, let's imagine that the world is a school yard for a moment, and each country is a kid in that very school yard. As with every school yard there are some bigger and some smaller kids, and there's also the weak ass tiny shrimps that tend to get picked on.
Now, we've got USA, China, Russia, Germany, England, Vietnam, Japan, India, Korea, Afghanistan, Iraq, Mexico, Cambodia, Libya, Cuba, Panama, Somalia, Pakistan, and a bunch of other countries.
Now, everyone agrees on that USA is one of the bigger kids, and that Vietnam, Korea, Afghanistan, Iraq, Mexico, Cambodia, Libya, Cuba, Panama, Somalia and Pakistan are weak ass tiny shrimps, at best.
So what do they all got in common? Well, USA has attacked them all within the past 100 years or so, successfully beating them up. And establishing USA as a "powerful military nation". Yet, something that seems to be ever so obvious is that USA never went to China to pick a fight, or Russia, or India. No, no... they avoided those kids.
So, for being a country that supposedly prides itself on military strength, USA sure loves to beat them shrimps.
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

didnt usa get their ass kicked by the little vietnamese shrimps? and didnt Cuba humiliate US in the only military action they ever pulled on them? (Bay of Pigs)
Germany was a pretty big "shrimp"

Vietnam is the 4'11 kid who goes psycho and comes at you with a broken beer bottle.
USA abused China in around ~1900 during the Boxer rebellion. iirc American mercenaries participated in the fighting with the tacit backing of the US government, and US Navy and Marines were deployed too to protect US assets.
While most people have forgotten about this, its impact on the Chinese psyche can be felt to this day.
