Rivals beats shift in every aspect. Especially when it comes to weather/day+night cycle.

It's also closer to the old NFS's as in, you don't just run around a boring track , it's got all the varying environments you'd want (snowy mountains/desert/dense forests etc).

So basically you are not really into cicuit racing... Well then it's no big surprise you don't like the circuit racing games Laughing

Well, sort of. I did enjoy Shift 1+2 at its time not gonna lie but yeah i do prefer a nice environment to race in instead.

Trust me, i'd really "like" PCars if it was so omgamazing visually for me as it is for some of you guys, even with the whole circuits thing.

As much as I love my true sims, Shift with mods get very close in the realism department
I agree but there are still some funny mistakes in some handlings. For example the 240SX is messed up in any mod I've came up to Very Happy I know because I own stage 2 240SX irl and it drives nowhere close as in the mods. I can't barely hold it in straight line in the game even if the car is 100 or more hp lower than its real life counterpart. Maybe I am still noob with my G27 but for this particular vehicle I am telling you, its nothing like the real experience.

The M3 E36 feels a bit overpowered too. I drove turboed E36s with more horsepower than the stock N/A M3 and their rear tends to go sideways very easily. In all mods it runs like its on rails Confused

I think its more the weight and the control over the car thats realistic in Shit 2 rather than the feeling of the particular models.

Wow the game can look really bad at times. Those shots in the link are just terrible. Looks like a ps3 game (even worse, and no i don't mean textures or car models) at higher res /w AA.

My settings (my specs are in my sig)

(the 25hz is just displayed wrong, TV is at 60Hz also the textures were at medium. With the latest build the visual settings are reset everytime >:O )

Thunderstorm is a heavy hitter on FPS but driving in rain is so much fun, except for when you are pushing the pedal to the metal on 5th gear at 200+ and you suddenly lose grip because the water built up under your tire Shocked

Here is the link, but I guess that the video is still uploading...

?? are the ingame options different in teh cars version? i got the junior version and i dont have..

Particle level and density option, also vignette is missing here ?!?!?!

is this normal?

@Werelds i don't see why you're talking about floaty/30fps etc etc . I simply mentioned visuals and nothing about gameplay. If you want a sim then sure go ahead and play PCars. If you want visuals though, not so much, driveclub has it beat in every aspect (AA/Resolution aside).

Because unlike you and certain other people (if he's reading, he knows I'm talking about him), I actually give a fuck about gameplay. And as pretty as Rivals may be, I'll trade its graphics for vanilla Shift handling without even blinking. What the fuck is the point of a racing game when the actual racing is shit? I don't get that, I've seen it multiple times on the hump now. If a shooter has shit shooting mechanics, people shit all over it. But apparently racing games can completely lack all that as long as they're pretty.

If I want to move through pretty environments, I'll load up fucking Google Maps instead. No matter how pretty a game is, that is not a substitute for actual gameplay. So when someone asks for the prettiest game, I'll pick one that actually has some gameplay to play in the game (Razz) rather than one that is good just for still shots and useless as an actual game.

Oh yeah, I wasn't suggesting the cars handle like their real-life counterparts. Shift 2 isn't a sim after all, that was never their goal. But even the vanilla game gets the two most important aspects right: weight shifts when accelerating/braking/turning and you gain or lose grip in accordance with that. The actual level of grip isn't realistic, but the mechanics behind it are Smile

hold your horses, i was asking about visuals, tried shift 2 and its nothing in comparison to rivals or grid 2. and racing mechanics are the matter of prefference so no point in starting another pointless discussion here.

I dont understand how Rivals has better graphics then Shift2...Maybe i have forgotten how game looks, i play Rivals just now and even that i play on 2560x +forced AA still dont like the graphics. Just like i dont like if in BF4, and like it in BF3. This Frostbite 3 looks so animated and plastic compared to Frostbite 2. Everything is like pixelated and exaggerated.
Shift1 and 2 are very shitty games, yes, but visually are really amazing.

This pCars, except the rain and whether, looks same like Shift 2 to me. If course i havent played it on real, judging only by shots.

Besides, Shift 2 and NFS Rivals don't even belong to the same genre. The comparison really doesn't hold up, no matter how you see it.
One is a driving game, the other is an interactive third person pinball game. Devil Troll

Good for you, we were discussing visuals.

rivals, shift 2, grid 2. everything maxed out, no postprocessing aps, cropped little bit but it doesnt really matter.

1st race in rivals and shift 2, 2 or 3 race in grid 2. as far as cars/tracks/overall visuals I would go with grid, tbh shift looks like shit and rivals its just too much (leaves, raindrops, flashy surfaces, whole cops/illegal racing crap)

I like how Ridge Racer Unbounded looks like! It has the right amount of brown and orange sometimes they even mix it up with some blue colours. It is esthetically pleasing.

Not really just a bit of ridiculing, basically what you guys are saying is that Teal and Orange is more esthetic to you. Because that is actually what springs in mind with games like Grid 2 & Rival.

I on the other hand am usually annoyed when they use these parlor tricks in games and movies. I'd always pick a pcars/shift style over that.

(and yes even they over use it at times, but the other games go one step over the top)

What does color palette have to do with lighting/shading/models/textures and whatnot?

i could easily post shot of shift in front of sun with 3/4 of space taken by orange sky, same as i could post shot of grid on regular gray-ish track with a white car. thats no point. point is shift visuals arent impressive at all in comparison to those games.

The biggest fail of GRID 2 and the ultimate deal breaker was not having the first-person camera.

No, no. The ultimate deal breaker was the drifty handling even on the supposedly ultimate stable vehicles. Every corner, even the smallest one - drift... wtf..

Inside Sim Racing thoughts on PS4 version.

I must admit I am quite impressed with quality/performances with this PS4 build.
But also I think providing only a gamepad was not a good move from SMS.
(Maybe steering wheels support isn't properly implemented on consoles version for now.)

edit - started NFS the run, oh boy that initial gameplay sequence
btw suprisingly old DIRT 3 doesnt look that bad and gives me that colin mcrea games vibe, which cant be bad. I suppose those racing games didnt have any major graphics mods?

AFAIK they should be the same but I don't know how often juniors get new builds. This was on Build 751, which one are you on?

Also did they enable multiplayer for juniors?
