So fucking annoying. Their noses are dug deep into their phones during the whole damn movie. Feels like i'm the only one watching. Would actually be better to watch alone so that i don't sit there annoyed the whole duration.

The worst ones are people that can't get their noses out of their phones and then, 20 minutes later when they finally put it down, go "So what's happening?"

friend: "come on lets watch a movie come on. i got the new star trek, enders game and the new batman."
me: "nah just lets watch some tv"
friend: "come on theyre so great"
me: "i hate scifi and batman also i want to chill and calm down"
friend: "cmon they are so great"
me: "ok then batman"

and then wonder when i fall asleep or play with my phone so i don't have to watch it.

so don't watch movies with people who don't want to watch those kind of movies or any movie at all. look for something everyone is pleased with and not just u because it was so great for u and u want to show it the whole world.

better for everyone

It's nobody else's fault you get badgered into watching films you don't like Neutral

friend: "let's watch Batman"
me: "Nope, I don't like Batman"
friend: "come on!"
me: "nope, already out the door"

"nothing, some idiot just lost 20 minutes of the movie" Laughing

I have one friend who spends most of his day chatting on his fucking "smart"phone. He is never focused on anything because of it, always divided between whatever he's supposed to be doing and the phone, even while driving or playing games (playing coop with him is really infuriating 'cause he's AFK every 5 minutes).

Never had that problem, because if they'd act like that I'd just toss them out. I know I'm pretty strict when it comes to what I allow and what not, but I think it's better to be clear what kind of boundaries you have.

But yeah the majority of people these days are way too obsessed with their phone.

Quality, not quantity... works the same with the friends you have Very Happy

But it's not that simple is it?

Sometimes we all do things we don't really want to, as that is what friends do.

Just pretend to enjoy the film it's no great loss, but at least show a little respect and keep off the bloody phone whilst others are trying to enjoy it. Then when you next go train spotting or butterfly catching you can cajole your friend into joining you, if they refuse remind them you watched the entire first series of My Little Pony with them.

I was just breaking it down as a counterpoint since Derpwald was blaming the "asker" rather than the "viewer" - either both share the "blame" or nobody does, because if it's truly that much of a huge problem to watch a film with friends, one you weren't all that keen on watching, then you share the blame by not refusing. You don't have to do everything your friends demand just because "that's what friends do" - because real friends would know what you don't want to do Wink

Well, yes of course. Ii was just pointing out we often do things to please others in the name of friendship, as long as they don't take the piss of course! Very Happy

But seriously, I don't really watch movies much. But if I did I would ban phone use whilst it is on, it's just bloody rude.

When I was in my last years of high school, it became a ritual for me and my best friend (who lived on his own, being two years older, and having a job) to rent a movie on friday nights. We alternated who got to pick the movie.

When I picked a movie, he ALWAYS fell asleep and then bitched saying the movie sucked even though he only watched the first 10 minutes. It was like, mentally, because he didn't pick the movie, it wasn't going to be any good <.<. This way, he fell asleep watching classics like Fifth Element, Blade Runner, Pink Panther Strikes Again, Planet of the Apes, Twelve Monkeys, etc. All classics too!

And yeah, he'd wake up a lot, go "what's happening?" and if you watched the movies above, you know most of them are pretty damn hard to explain that easily.

Funnily enough, he loved movies I thought were lame. Event Horizon I found to be a pretty cheap scifi horror flick but he absolutely loved it.

I wont watch any movie without subtitles because of this.

Yeah, I've had this problem with several GFs.... I used to be a huge movie buff, but these days it's extremely rare for a new film to do much of anything for me.

So, when I have someone and we agree to watch a movie, I usually do my best to suggest a movie that I think she'll enjoy - and, too often, she doesn't give a shit, even though she'll insist she wants to watch it.

I mean, it's nice that she's doing it for my sake and all, but I want to know what SHE thinks and I don't have any interest in watching a movie by myself in the company of others.

It's just one of those things with people. Some people really care about what they do with their time - and they invest themselves. Other people just enjoy the social aspect and don't seem to care about the actual thing they're doing.

Nothing wrong with it, but it can be pretty fucking infuriating when you're dying to hear what other people think of something you love or enjoy greatly - and you find them half asleep during the god damned peak of the masterpiece you're trying to show them.
