Why is so much in life "dumbed down"? I assume its because Joe Average wont make any mistakes, but isnt that a poor reason for not including features so simple and tiny that Joe Average wouldnt even care?
This is just a small rant, about some things that still havent been changed even tough they are the simplest things in terms of PC's.
For starters, games installation, how many times do i have to reinstall directx just because there simply isnt a yes/no option in most installations (kudos to the ones that stand out).
I have an odd problem, my firewall actually blocks then installation of DirectPlay8, that comes with the direct x installation, so whenever a game installation installs directx without my concent, guess what, it reinstalls it, letting my firewall block directplay8, ending up with a faulty directx installation which i have to reinstall my self after unloading my firewall in order to play any games in direct ip.
And i can go on and on, there are so many things, so easy to do, but yet never done.
What about when installing an old driver while you still have some left-over .dll files, you can choose to, "Yes" overwrite the newer file with the old one, "No" dont overwrite, or "No to all" dont overwrite any files, ie: cancel the installation.
But where is "Yes to all" overwrite every newer file with the ones i wanna install now?? How many minutes would it take to code that little button in?
So many small stupid things, making our spoiled lives harder.

Nah it was easy after a day or so. Ahh the days before windows 3.1.
I was talking to a friend the other day. We agreed that to use a PC people should have to have a licence. I mean theres some total idiots out there PC wise.

I remember having like one bootdisk per game cause i couldnt be arsed to fiddle around with memory every time i changed game. The best dos-program ever was Norton Commander if you ask me, windows in a sexy form.

Shit has been dumb downed enough still.
Take that old bald idiot that sells computer learning cd's. Become an expert in 10 easy steps - teaches u excel, word, outlook (email), mspaint and some other random business/idiot proof apps...ridiculous, $29.99...fuck, whats the world coming to when it needs a step by step guide for everything - whatever happened to reading, analyzing and understanding and learning about something that'll u can expand on. Rather than being some mindless idiot, remembing 10 steps on how to operate Excel...

So true. The way you learned about computers 15 years ago was by trial and error. I dont know how many times i fucked up my dads computer nor my own. Now when someone in my family needs help with say burning a cd i have to write that shit down step by step..
start computer > doubleclick burning-icon > click audio cd > click add music > select music > insert cd > click burn cd > wait three minutes > eject tray > pick up cd with right hand > insert cd into cd-player > press play > listen to cd
