The same reason why there a fuckton of people who believe that the Illuminati is just about to exterminate a lot of people and install the NWO (any day now, I'm super cereal), that airplanes are constantly dumping mind control chemicals (condesation is just gosh darn too complex to grasp), that the US faked the Moon landing (because the Soviets who closely monitored the whole thing would never reveal any deception they would have easily noticed, duh), and of course that the 9-11 attacks were orchestrated by the US, instead of just exploiting the aftermath.
It's very satisfying for anyone to be totally convinced that they are the few who see the world for what it is. They are in the know. They connected the dots that the sheeple could not. And since they hold on to the notion religiously, it's borderline impossible to dissuade them. Being convinced that you posess knowledge that everyone else is too stupid to see is kinda empowering.
But there is one thing I learned from Hitchens.
"What can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence."
And making shit up, and pointing at compression artifacts on videos, claiming it's a glitch in their electronic disguises is a lot of things, but not evidence.
