 |
Omg Just a week before I was going on a small vacation. The first in many years... I just login to my bank portal and find theres 50 left on my card... over 950$ in purchases made to expedia and skymall, not by my obviously... FUCK!!!!!
Thats alot of cash to me : / Hopefully it wont ruin the vacation as I cna hopefully juggle around some cash but thatll be wait and see.
since its a us bank and they are us merchants wre shit was ordered its been hell so far getting anything done..
bank blocked the card ofcourse and sent me dispute forms, but the transactions are still pre-auth atm. and they adviced me to contact the merchants either way. I sent both a mail, skymall phone support opens at 7 am us time. And Expedia I spent 40 mins on hold.. then 5 mins with a support rep, another 15 on hold and was then transferred to a ... Machine... to leave a message... fucking insanity I tell you. I realize its an odd time and people might not be there but dont tell me ill be speaking to someone then pull that shit.
I really hope I can get the funds back but im fearing the worst... The wierd thing is I never made any wierd purchases with the card.. always either ATM or paypal/skrill or othervendors though the paypal portal. So no clue how they have gotten my info. Maybe they pulled it out of cookies but I havent entered it in a long time. My worry is maybe they hacked my pc somehow(im not too common in these things), which also had a copy of my ID(although a lapsed one, the updated one is safe in my wallet).
ugh... fucking timing of this too. At this point im past the initial panick, starting to calm down somewhat.. will call expedia and skymall again when I wake up(thankgod skype world calling free month trial) and hopefully then they can do something for me.
Anyone have any advice perhaps? something ive overlooked I dont know... Never had something like this happen to me before... it was always something I thought would never happen to me, like godzilla or the abominable snowman =(

There should be a refund from your bank, minus an excess fee, hopefully!
8 out of 10 dentists prefer zipfero to competing brands(fraich3 and Mutantius)!

I dont know if you guys have virtual credit cards in netherlands, but i suggest you to get one if you can. For example i have debit card and can make virtual creditcard that lasts 1 month and send x amount of money there and regulate how much can i spend during that time.
Im the guy who "Shitting up world news", according to admin, so watch out ...

use a credit card that requires a pin code = no problems with theft (unless you write the code on the card i guess. But then you kinda deserve to get stolen from lol).
my card has pin code for physical use and also a code for online. 3d-secure.

My CC is also PayPass, but now I got told that that makes it more insecure.. which kind of makes sense

nope.. Always been very carefull with it, Haveit less then a year litteraly the only charges to it are paypal(direct paypal not some portal) and the ATM. So skimming the only thing I can think of... but if that had happened why not use an atm?(well I do shield my pin)
The Card has a pin for ATM purchases but normal cc (cvc etc) for online purchases which this were. I did a viris scan, of all the scanners I could possibly download lol, had some falso positives for cracks(Deleted them anyway) but nothing else..
Getting shit done trough bank is a hassle too. The card in questioin is a payoneer card, us bank us card. it was blocked ofcourse and I have dispute forms, but if the marchants can help me that would certainly be the path of least resistance
I called the first merchant skymall and they were very helpfull, if all went well they cancelled the pre auth and I should get the money back to the card(how that works with getting money back on a blockd card im not sure)
calling expedia again now which is 99% waiting times lol

That sucks dude. Get a card with something other than Payoneer if you can. I've had my cards stolen over 6 times now, and in the US you just call the bank and they take care of everything in under a minute, no need to go through the hassle you are going through now. You can't do that with Payoneer, because they're a sketchy ass small company with support that sucks dick >.>
Of course, I assume because you have a Payoneer card you have money coming in from interesting places, so it might not be that simple to replace it with a card from another bank. ^^

Change all your passwords (it's a healthy thing to do anyway), but be aware that probably it was nothing you did or didn't do. I had a few cards compromised as well, the card operator usually just calls to ask if the suspicious purchase was made by me, then cancels the card and send me a new one.
I believe the stores where we buy things with the cards are hacked, some quite often, and that leaves the numbers exposed a few times...

Well not so much interesting, its just the easiest way to handle the online affairs. they dont ovver much of an alternative except paypal or wire transfer. and pp I trust as far as I can throw m

Yeah changed all important pws first thing after the viruscheck. Still pretty paranoid about it all.. gonna do a format tommorow of every on the network to make 100% sure.
The only thing I can remotely connect to this is the ATM at the central station behaving wierdly last week. wouldnt work for hte guy in front of me, but seemed to work ok for me, took a lil long with hte card though it felt at the time. This is an ATM at a central station though I cant imagine these can get skimmed that easily
