Hello,

I have a USB enclosure for my 640gb external 2.5" SATA drive which I use to watch downloaded TV episodes on my PS3. My current enclosure has a Y cable which requires 2 USB connectors, one for data and power and the other for additional power. Unfortunately I have to connect both ends of the Y cable for the hard drive to operate.

I am thinking of replacing the enclosure and wondering if anyone can recommend any specific enclosures which will allow me to connect the hard drive to my PS3 on a single USB cable.

I did purchase a USB enclosure with a USB 3.0 cable but the PS3 did not recognise it which I was surprised by as my PC had no problems at all.

Im in the UK so prefer to order from the UK if possible.

Can anyone help please? Smile

You sure?

Most enclosures with a Y cable have a Y cable for backwards compatibility with USB 1.1. They can't get enough power from 1.1, so they need 2 ports; when connected to a USB 2.0 port only one is required though, the first one (i.e. the one that is "directly" connected to the enclosure).

Is the enclosure 2.0? If so, it's almost certain you don't actually need to use both plugs mate.

At any rate, it's not one for data, one for power. The "first" one is always both power and data.
