jesus christ I would do anything for triple buffering in this game... I'm getting 60 fps most of the time but small moments of 55ish are dropping it down to 30 ...the abrupt change makes me nuts! The same problem existed in ACIV but you could at least bring up the task manager go back to the game and boom it enabled it. I can't play this game like this.

You enabled triple buffering by alttabbing ?

I had the same problem but apparently playing in bordereless window mode eliminates tearing (triple buffering?) without having a hit on the framerate like the vsync option does..

Why do so many people have trouble with vsync in this? Vsync 1 = no double-buffering frame lock steps. It's either 60 or it's 58 or it's 21, etcetera. If you're getting 60>30>60 then something has been changed on your comp somewhere.

I also had the 60-30-60 thing. I don't see what on my PC can have that effect.

I dunno but when I switch ingame vsync to 1 it drops the framerate to 30 when the game can't manage a steady 60, which in my case is pretty much always. The second ingame vsync option locks the framerate to 20 for whatever reason. Anyway borderless windowed solved this issue for me.

Is there any loss of performance when using borderless window?

I didn't notice anything but I didn't go checking back and forth. Nothing major at least.

Thanks! I always prefer borderless window in games when there's not a performance penalty for using it.

I finished the campaign and also did a bunch of side stuff. It's a very good game as far as I'm concerned.

Things I liked:

* Graphics are good, often amazing
* Story wasn't amazing but I really got into it and wanted to see it's conclusion and the baddies get their due. Also, some very cool missions in the campaign.
* A lot of entertaining side activities
* Gameplay is a good mix of different stuff, all of which are competent on their own
* Great atmosphere
* Driving was decent. I was expecting worse after seeing some comments. Definitely better than many other open world games like Saints Row and Just Cause 2.
* Spider tank!

Things I didn't like:

* Aiden is a boring character.
* Cannot shoot out of cars.
* Performance wasn't particularly good although I didn't suffer from any big problems.
* Some bugs and technical issues
* The gameworld isn't all that interesting.

it works ok. When locked to 30, I can go with some high-ultra combination and it never drops or stutters... but I've not tried the campaign yet and don't really feel like it. I am sick of just driving all around the side stuff and disctractions none of which I want to do. It feels like every ac game recently

The gameworld is like the #1 thing I love the most about the game! (along with the atmosphere).

You sure that wasn't meant for pros? Very Happy

I mentioned atmosphere in the pros. By gameworld I strictly meant the area they chose to portray I suppose. I really liked Pawnee but the rest of it was pretty much a big city. I never really felt compelled to just go exploring on my own. There is a lot of interesting stuff to do but all of it is marked on the map.

I think the best way to put it is that it lacked variety.

Just took some shots to show that VS1 isn't locking in double-buffering steps. VS2 locks straight to 30 though. I also tried the -disablepagefilecheck switch and it seemed to have helped the stutter and hitching during driving, though not the overall - and excessive - frameloss. Still hitches from time to time and it's irritating as all hell :\ That's why I've been locking to 30, it's janky but it's better than the 60>52>55>49>36>60 nonsense.

Anybody else have a problem with the driving "response"? I have a pretty bad delay between inputting the command and the car responding to it.
