There's no release date check from UPlay itself so buying a physical copy and installing that will allow you to play.
However redeeming the key into Steam won't allow you to download and I believe redeeming a UPlay key will also not allow you to install the game that way

thx for head up, I have played through to begining of Act II, I like the game a lot but do agree with many of the critisms listed here. ( Im lucky enough to run ultra @ 1080p with all maxed out)
I think the multiplayer element is key and suspect after a patch or three and with the multiplayer thrown into the mix , this will shape up to be a pretty decent game

Well Dof does work, when you use your phone (like 1 sec) or when you use an ATM.
But that's about it.
Also.. hilarious stuff :

Apparently above 1080p ultra + AA = more than 3gb vram usage. An nvidia title ... which most flagship cards have 3 gb vram.

This way I can play it in my bunker after the nuclear war even when steam and the likes are no more

It doesn't even matter if you bought the game or not. Glad I don't hang around in such places tbh.

90% of games have a review embargo before release ? Atleast AAA titles.

Aren't dynamic shadows some kind of mod for GTA IV. I'm replaying it and I didn't notice anything like that.
EDIT: But I might check the settings.

Didn't have time to ensure fun and quality? They're the publisher. They're the developer. They aren't allowed to pull those excuses.
They delayed the game and it should have been delayed a year or more. They gave up, that's the truth. They couldn't make a next gen, sharp edged graphics open city video game and we're left with whatever Watch Dogs is right now. They cut corners everywhere and these aren't issues they can fix easily. Its bland and quite depressing and what's more: it stinks of lies and deceit originating all the way from the first "in-game" announcement video running on a "high end pc".
In my opinion this is Aliens: Colonial Marines, X Rebirth and Total War: Rome 2 all over again. Developers get away with it again and again. They cash in and don't deliver. They leave a "live" team behind to pretend to patch games for the following years in the wake of their release but the essence is that the core developer has moved on to new projects.

A publisher shouldn't butt into how the game plays besides giving a global idea of where the game is headed, giving the developer a kick in the ass when needed and besides that, should not interfere. History of gaming is filled with games that became disasters due to publishers interfering and the game losing plot and focus. I think this is a good example ... .
