Having a certain status on post-count motivates the wrong behavior. I've been admin/mod on enough forums to see that. We'd get more and more newbs who'd try to post so much shit, the moderators would quit their jobs.
If there's supposed to be some "special title", I think it should be given [eg. voted] by the mods, not earned through amount of posts - quantity != quality.
If you ask me, I'd rather see that anyone who joins these forums would only be able to see the newbie-section up to post count 10 or 20. And be force-fed a big: "NO REQUESTS!" in the top section until they hit the 20-marker, which is when the forum will become 100% available.
And, for those with below 20 posts - set a limit of new posts to 1 post per 5 minutes, and a maximum of 10 per day.
Yes, yes I'm back.

I think this is wrong, you shouldn't take away people's right to post. Having a post bound status is a meaningless thing, but to put a timer between someones posts is really... well.... extreme.

Pulling together what people have said it seems like some sort of "post bound ranking" (or maybe a little medal/avatar type system) or a respect system (they are avalible for forums) would work well.
The problem isnt that long time members want to feel better than other people, all users have the same rights, its more the fact that new users should be able to easily recognise who is a good, helpful person to speak with. Its for there benifit as well as ours. There are many occasions where I try to help someone with a PC issue, or a general question and end up getting a fairly unthankful response because I didnt provide the answers they want to hear. A system which would show if the posts I had made in the past where helpful, would give that user more insight into the fact that what I have said was meant to help, not annoy them or hinder them.
As for the mods, LOVE YOU GUYS! We all know you guys do an awsome job, and as we always say, mods can't be everywhere all the time, they have lives too! The main complaint is never about how fast a mod deals with something, just that it happens at all, but that can't be changed no matter how many mods/gods/admins/etc are around to save the day, the only answer would be to delete all the users and stop registration haha.

Agree'ed in many ways, I do think people should have the first post locked to the newbie forum to help control mass joining and stupid questions around the times of big releases, but that is a pretty standard idea "you must post an intro first" sort of deal

Nice idea syn.. maybe having a first forum where u have to make say 5 posts to move to the main forums.. and admin that newbie forum like fuck.....
Because everytime there is a big rlz... u have 60 newbies all going "OMG WHERE CAN I GET THIS!?"
"OMG WHAT IS A ISO~ ?" "HOLY SHIT WHAT DOES MOUNT MEAN!" "HOW DO I BURN THIS !?"

Elitism (sp??) never helped anything.
Just because smeone has less than 20 thousand posts, does not mean that you are a better member than them

At first i liked the idea of a ranking-system based on your number of posts. But that may not work in the long run, as some people may start spamming even more to reach e.g 1000 posts. However, a some kind of "status" could be handed out by the mods, personalized ones. For example, maybe Mutantius could have "Big Daddy" (OR WHATEVER, i couldn´t think of anything else ) under his name, or anything else that the mods decide fits the user Now, ofcourse no-one would like a negative status, so if the user doesn´t like it, he just tells the mods, and they change it/remove it...
And don´t take everything seriously, I´m just barinstorming here aswell
Watercooled 5950X | AORUS Master X570 | Asus RTX 3090 TUF Gaming OC | 64Gb RAM | 1Tb 970 Evo Plus + 2Tb 660p | etc etc

What would you put as your custom user title ..
Personally I like the set up as is .. all this pissing about imo will ruin it ..

Yeah, I would agree with a time restriction between registering and being able to post.
The only issue I ever see is noobs spamming the board when GTA:SA/Doom3/Quake4/etc. come out. That should be the only thing that gets taken care of.
BTW, another forum I visit, dvdrs.net gives out one distinction -- you become an "elder" after 100 posts.

Custom user titles and a 1k+ board seem like the most widely accepted ideas so far. My idea is, give a 500 = elite status (possible idea: Nforcer), 1000 = custom title + access to the elite board. Since there are only a handful of regulars with 1k+ posts, giving them status shouldn't be a challenge.
As for people spamming up their post count, anyone dumb enough to type out a thousand posts just for a title in their avatar, is not capable of coming up with 1000 coherent posts.

i dont want any authority on anything. i enjoy being a causal user of the board.
also an elite forum seems useless to me. the only thing we would do in there is talk about our unnecessarily high post counts.

Not really... An elite forum would allow for a more or less mature version of general chat/pc games, where we'd be able to ask questions and have them answered within a reasonable timeframe. I'd be much more willing to go into detail and bother to provide screens/descriptions of a solution in a forum where I know my advice won't go ignored. Also, it would allow for a more relaxed set of rules (since people have been here for a while, they're less likely to know what can and can't be done on the board and why.)
Inj, great idea on the meta-moderation, but a 30-minute ban is kinda pointless. It would take more than that amount of time to gather votes for the ban. It should be 24hrs to 2 days imo. And I don't think a special designation team is necessary, the rights should be spread evenly among all regulars. A simple "vote against" and "vote for" button next to each profile is all we need, where a certain amountof "vote against" would bring the user in question to the mods' attention, as would a certain number of "vote for". That would eliminate the need for "ban this prick" and "unban him" threads that seem to be numerous lately. 10 votes against you/0 votes for you and you're gone for 24h. 50 more votes against you than for you and you're gone, unless mods decide to unban. That would make the board a lot more democratic, where people that everyone hates would get a ban quickly and people that contribute to the board would be brought to the mods' attention and offered moderator status. As much as I'd love to see a metamoderator tag next to my name, I don't think it's necessary.

btw not everyone who signs up is literally a noob as I have been coming here for just over 3 years and only signed up not to long ago.

Indeed. Why should Super_Dux not be able to read certain posts in an 'elite' forum just beacuse he hasnt made 1000 posts of his own.
This whole elite forum thing is a little ridiculous.

What a lame thread, obviously written by some kid who has passed his 1000 post and think he should be rewarded. Truly pathetic if you ask me. If you think people respect you just because you have some starts or 1000 posts, think again.

I respect everyone until they give me a reason to do otherwise. Coming on here and flaming instead of criticising seems sort of childish to me.
