F Apart from any pre scripted npc invasions, I have never been invaded by an enemy player (except from the areas, where it is part of the gameplay/story like bell area),
That is strange, i had 3 red invasions in 30 min just 1 day ago at SL 140.
Sorry, I mean control of the whole game design and development, stupid typo on my end.
And while we are at it, yes, DS2 is way too light. All movement feels way too fast, the fights aswell, poise has some strange effects. DS1 was much heavier and a hard hit felt like a hard hit.
Also the ridiculous high deadzone to change directions is stupid.
<- this guy has a lot of good points (and some stupid)

It's not too fast. Some bits of it are too fast; other bits are way too slow. Disclaimer up front: this is all about PvE. I have 0 interest in PvP, I've firewalled the game off so I've been in offline mode the whole time. For me PvP's never been a part of Souls games.
I'm somewhere near the end of the game and the TL;DR of that video is exactly what I'm feeling: it was rushed.
Part of my frustration comes from the fact that as usual, I'm an idiot and went for a dual wield build and picked Swordsman accordingly. In this game, that means rolling. Rolling, rolling, rolling, rolling, rolling, rolling, rolling, rolling, rolling, rolling. Clearly though, no one tested a dual wield build. The flaws of the game become most apparent with a build like mine.
Now, there's several problems with dual wielding. First and foremost is that it the game is designed around you either having a shield, or being built to stay at range. In my build I obviously don't *want* to use a shield nor *can* I since I've got absolutely fuckall defence. I'm better off taking the hit like a man and rolling away like a little bitch rather than attempting to block anything. Everything about the game screams this; they throw multiple large enemies at you at the same time, which effectively means you have to roll around until you can group them up and then hopefully make them do some slow attack so you can get 1 or 2 hits in. It's more fun when you have bosses with adds, because since you have no poise getting hit once usually means death.
Which brings me to part 2: an aweful lot of areas aren't built for rolling. I don't know how many times my only option was to roll backwards, which in some cases fuck you up entirely. Not even now, when I'm at 40 ADP is my roll distance good enough to roll away from some lance wielding enemies, since they lunge forward and do 928357293875 stabs within a second.
Roll on () into part 3: the fucking animations. Don't get me wrong, the way the enemies track you now is fucking fantastic. I absolutely love it, because it makes reading enemies and their attacks so much more important. But at the same time, I'd wager that 75% of the hit boxes are fucked up. Some enemies' attacks connect with you almost when they start their fucking swing. Better yet, the size of their weapon is completely irrelevant, because the model isn't what determines where it hits. In a lot of cases you can cheat the system though, because some of these attacks you can just roll into and literally roll through the model. In other cases the hit window is so large that that doesn't work either though. The Chariot? Just roll right through its spikes.
So that brings me to the worst part: the lack of a real benefit to dual wielding. Power stance doesn't become available for a while, since you need the stats (never mind the fact that it's never hinted at). Even so, it only covers for the fact that you're wielding 2 weaker weapons and it just lets you do more damage. What they should've done for dual wielding; especially when you have something called a fucking swordsman is to make that a trade off: outside power stance, you get quicker attacks (dual wielding has no IAS benefits whatsoever; even alternating left/right doesn't attack any faster than swinging just 1 weapon), with power stance you lose that ability but gain what you gain now. Better yet, they should've looked at Jedi Outcast/Academy and give you a light/medium/heavy stance. You're no better at parrying either, which has a ridiculously tight window now and you don't really want to do that while dual wielding anyway, since failure often means certain death.
And then there's the bosses. What a fucking joke. I just have no words for it, almost all of them are a complete fucking joke. The Pursuer quite possibly is the most interesting one, because he's probably the one boss that has both interesting mechanics and no broken ones. His attacks are all dodgeable exactly when they should be and that early on in the game it'll take you a while to kill him. No need for a shield, no need to stay at range. If you die it's because you fucked up.
Then there's a few that are just pushovers from the moment you start playing; Dragonrider, Covetous Demon. Twin Dragonriders are even funnier, because the melee one hasn't changed from the start of the game so it took me 3, maybe 4 hits to kill him. The ranged one I two-shot; the entire fight lasted maybe 20-25 seconds. Or The Iron King, took me 40 seconds because all he did was slam his damn fists on the ground. In fact, the entire second half of the game has been completely devoid of any excitement for me. Every boss was boring as hell; there's a few I died on because they have an attack with a broken hitbox, but the majority I did on my first try and all fairly quickly too. I did like the Pursuer coming back after Smelter Demon though, he was more fun than the fight I just did.
They're balanced out by bullshit like the Ruin Sentinels though, which are a hit 'n run game for dual wielders. Even more so for the Gargoyles, which is the fight that took the most time for me, both in terms of actual fight time as in number of times I died.
Worst part is that a lot of the trash mobs are harder than bosses. Drakekeepers? Fuck me. The ones with the maces are virtually impossible to do; they take minutes each. Endless stamina, attacks that are quicker than any dagger wielding enemy in the game and to boot their swings all have a 315 degree hit radius (visual it's only 270 or so though). Can't roll away since their reach is nuts, can't roll around because of the radius. Best chance you have with rolling is rolling *through* the strikes and using invincibility frames. In the end I resorted to using poison arrows on them instead because I couldn't be fucked dealing with broken mechanics like theirs. Much quicker with arrows.
I've still enjoyed most of the game, but it is a disappointment. What that guy says is absolutely true: for every step forward, they've taken 2 steps back.
For bosses burning a bonfire ascetic and fighting them again might be beneficial.
Spoiler:
They start dropping +2 variants of some of the rings you can otherwise find or buy as normal or as +1
Also for the pursuer he has a small encounter in the drangleic castle throne room when using a ascetic or otherwise being on NG+, good rewards but a tough fight.
(I'd recommend burning one or two bonfire ascetics per area just so you can see all possible events and have a chance at all possible items, that or actually beating the game twice and then saving the ascetics for farming souls.)
(Or for those really annoying enemies - heide knights for one that's not too much of a spoiler - that have a chance drop single parts of a specific item set and won't respawn so you'll burn through ten or so ascetics trying to collect it all.)
You should really not block the game from going online, you are missing out SO much! Seriously...
Multiplayer is definitely a VERY VERY big point in DS2 and it's not intrusive or annoying at all, it adds to the game enjoyment.
The boss fights were really silly, but my biggest problem with them was just that almost all of them were a big round arena and nothing else. In Dark Souls you had really tight fighting zones, like the carpa, who was a bitch if you tried to kill him early on and you had to use the steps and so on to properly fight him. Sif's attacks were also really good as he was pretty deadly from far away.
The fucking rat on the other hand was just boring.
What really frightens me though is, that even though it has sooooooo many flaws (and stuff that is plain worse than dark souls), it's still so much fun and I think my personal GOTY for now
thats because the very foundation is still amazing.
in this case its the same as with arkham city origins,
created by a b-team, because the a-team of previous games is working on the real next-gen sequel, but still a good and very fun game on its own even though it just copies the good things from the predecessor.
beast souls will be the next groundbreaking souls game.

Doesn't for me. I do find it annoying and intrusive; even the faked NPC invasions do nothing other than just add more trash to kill. I did have it enabled at first, but I suggest you try a dual wield build and then come back to me and still say it isn't intrusive or annoying. Dual wielding is insanely dependent on weapons and stats and earlier on in the game getting invaded is just fucking annoying as the trash themselves are hard enough as it is. Keep in mind that I have virtually no poise, very little armour and even if I do use a shield, the lack of those 2 doesn't help much against the cookie cutter builds.
So yes, I find it very annoying and I don't miss it one bit.

in pvp its all about rolling anyway, its pointless blocking against most players since everyone has either an infused weapon that does chip damage while blocking or infuses the weapon manually with items.
i see many dual wield builds in pvp, they are more useful than one with a high stability shield, so its basically the opposite of pve.
you have basically been playing pvp-style pve the whole time
Sure, but like I said, that's for higher levels. Early on in the game dual wielding is nowhere near as effective in PvP; you don't have the poise break yet, you don't have any hard hitters. Couple that with no defense and casters especially will rip through you. The only thing I imagine still works early game is getting 2 clubs, that'll probably be pretty annoying in PvP
Right now I can probably be pretty devastating in PvP, but it's just not what it's about for me.
I still wonder how you could have so much pvp interaction (invasions) early on in the game? I think around lvl 70 or so I had my first encounters with invaders and those were bellfry tower invaders, so not random invasions.
And as I apparently played quite good (lost next to no) souls, I had a low soul memory and a lot of endurance. So I just chipped away their whole endurance, while they were holding onto their mighty tower shields until they got stunlocked and landed two more good hits
I can only imagine that you can play a similar tactic, but of course, without a shield you are pretty much fucked, because of the damn lag in some fights!
BTW you have close to ~4x more hours on this game then I do, are you NG++++ or what? Did you enjoy it that much that you played several times through the SP? TBH I am afraid to go to NG+ and further, because after this point only the skilled players will be there and they'll have more knowledge on how to skill and whatever :O
Edit: And PVP doesn't mean strictly invasions? There are plenty of dragon convenants and red signs on the floor. Just summon them, greet em nicely and have a fair fight

Steam needs to start tracking idling hours
I haven't finished my first playthrough yet. Need to go through all the memories now, I'm gonna take a shot at Darklurker too. Nearly there, but no, haven't finished it yet. Lots of cases where I played for 30 minutes then went out to do other stuff whilst leaving the game running
You're in some covenant that lets ppl invade or wear an invasion ring, maybe?
nope, im not in any covenant nor do i have any weird rings: stamina boost, hp rgen, physical atack boost+poise reduction.
These were red guys invading me.
Three different red invaders in a very short time. Literally 10 minutes apart each or less. this was in the area with the ghost ship, and the area at the ocean with the burning lighthouse/tower whatever it is.
I don't think those are pvp specific areas?
One guy invaded me as I was buying from the merchant in the ghost ship area. Almost killed the merchant by accident.
Interesting. I knew something was up. I first noticed it with dogs in the "blighttown" area. You get hit even before their animation of attack starts playing. I beat ps3 version, and I never remember it happening.
Sig too big. -Nothing is too big for Fedor. Expect a nasty armbar.
Neh. I'm level 202 and only got invaded like 3 times. 2 of which were blue sentinels lusting for my blood for killing Commander Zarbon at Undead Crypt.
when doing the Uchigatana R2 there are two values of damage this weapon can inflict, one much higher than the other. On 30 fps the Uchigatana deals the higher damage 90% of the time, whilst on 60fps I find it's only about 50% of the time.
jesus fuck, the game is incredibly broken at 60 fps on pc and people have just started realizing this.
durability goes down twice as fast as it was intended (at 30 fps on consoles ie.),
parry timings are skewed, own attacks may do alot less damage.
i am certain many of the laggy online encounters are a result of one person playing at locked 30 fps and the other at 60.
