Oh dear, from the top 10 I've only played one (V:TMBL) Okay which I've set my mind on changing for some time already, of course.

But at least I recognize several winners from the overall top 50 Fuck Yeah

Out of all the classic late 90's/early 2000's RPGs, Planescape is the only one I never played. And for a pretty stupid reason thinking back on it - I hated the way the main character looked.

I ended up buying it on GOG last year to see what I was missing, and I loved it...for the time that it worked. After reaching Mebeth's hut the game would always crash when I tried to leave, so I never got to play the rest of it.

Reading such epic lists only fuels my desire to reinstall and replay all these classics, and my huge backlog doesn't allow me to do it at the moment. First world's gamer problem!

I've played every single game on that list, and never finished one of them. Sad

Holy shit Temple of Elemental Evil on the 21st spot! Now I do somewhat agree, but I did not see that one coming (edging out Icewind Dale is silly tho).

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

none of the new-ish rpgs on that list is like that,

dark souls isnt, witcher 2 isnt (except for some tits/ass and kurwa), dragon age origins isnt either.

I've always felt that TOEE is vastly underrated and its qualities go beyond the excellent combat system (for instance, there's a suprising amount of choices and consequences - especially in how you deal with the temple factions - and many of the quests have non-obvious alternative solutions).

Great list, by the way. Also, Darklands at #18, UUW at #20 and my beloved ROA: Star Trail at #30 So Much Win

The only one I'd have put significantly higher on the list is Daggerfall, but then I'm a shameless DF fanboy so that probably doesn't count Razz

It started as a Top 50, but then they decided to include the best 20 "runner-ups" (games that got at least 10 points). So that effectively makes it a Top 70.
