Fighter style is almost unplayable due to ridiculously high delays, targeting is dodgy as hell movement is too sensitive and imprecise.
Sometimes I really don't understand game developer's priorities... for fuck sake, why bother spending months/years to develop levels, enemies, story and dialogue for a game if you can't even make the main character move/fight properly. |
This is exactly complain i had with dark souls 2, its supposed to be hard with unique combat, but for me it is really slow and unresponsive, where dodging is more of luck or prediction because its so slow.
BUT i found controls really responsive and fast in Bound by flame, i am using kb+mouse, maybe you should try that as well, i never understood why people have to use a controller on a game that supports kb and mouse, you had to play with xbox for years to get used to that piece of trash hardware

If you think DS2 is clunky/unresponsive it's exactly because you're NOT playing with a controller my friend, believe me
Ds2 is not unresponsive, on the contrary it's very finely tuned and calibrated. The movement is precise when you fail to dodge it's because you misjudged the timing.
Here it's another matter. Dodging goes only in one direction, so it can fail or succeed depending on how the enemies and camera are positioned, there are huge delays between one action and the other (example: after you release the "block" button there's almost a second (if not more) of delay before you can swing your weapon), when you target an enemy your character doesn't "hook" to it properly (he/she doesn't keep facing the enemy while you move, nor does the camera), switching between targets is dodgy, etc... you even get STUCK in the fucking game geometry during combat from time to time! (happened to me twice so far)
Don't get me wrong, it's far from unplayable, but it's not what I'd call fluid/responsive either.
As for the controller itself, I've always played on both PC and consoles, and I always try both pad and kb/mouse with every game to see which feels best, and here (like in DS2) the controller is better, believe me.

For the faults the game has, unresponsive controls are absolutely not one of them - not here anyhow. Everything is fast, fluid, responsive, no lag of "pausing" or recovering of any kind. It just ... works.

Dunno, we must play different games, while i can agree that some of DS2 slowness is a design feature and not well derp controls, but controls and responsive are really good in bound by flame, one could say they are too responsive and make combat bit too easy, i have no problems with camera either, clearly it isnt meant to be played with controller if you are having so many issues while noone else seem to have them
There is no delay between my block and my next swing, if there is its so small i never noticed it, havent really played much with daggers, but dodging is easy as well considering it always bounces back

But DS2 doesn't have "slowness". It's intended and remedied by a skill you level up. Agility and a heavy equipment load can account for the slowness you are experiencing.
Having 100 AGL and load below 70% will feel smooth as a knife through butter.
Dark Souls 2 is one of the most responsive games I've ever played. I pulled of close call jumps and rolling maneuvers from ledges countless times, it's the only way to get the hard to reach loot.

Does anybody else have problems with the game randomly crashing during gameplay?

Retarded publisher, I'm afraid, which is why - despite thoroughly enjoying the game - I have no qualms about pirating it. Focus are muppets and have a history of invasive bullshit DRM.
Incidentally, if anyone figures out what the sound format is for this game, I'd be much obliged. The .SPK packs are just ZIPs and can be renamed/extracted and there's a music folder in the data.spk under "sound\music" but the files are .PGZ ones. They, too, can be renamed/extracted but then you have files without extension and can't be played in a media player - they're not MP3/WAV/OGG, etc. I want that music track from the Elven city .. it's awesome and I can't find anything about it on YT.

Isn't it Valve who is doing that?
I remember reading it on Steam forums when someone posted to Lolozaur's thread...

You guys do know this isnt the publishers or the developers right? There was a change the Steam EULA a few days ago that basically states that all game are region locked now and they are slowly applying this to the their current catalogue starting with the newer releases.
If you have an issue with this then get a petition going but I doubt steam will change their mind due to them getting few up with people buying their games from cheaper regions and the larger cartels of third hand sellers who buy games in bulk from cheap regions and sell them in the more expensive ones but a small but substantial profit. Steam doesn't see a penny of this money so it stands to reason they don't like this behavior, thus the change. |
So I guess publishers are not to be blamed for this.

Finished it. Loved it. I stand by my earlier opinion and that is; this was a thoroughly enjoyable, if rough, game that kept me playing from start to finish and loving every moment. I enjoyed most of the voice acting, the plot was.... okay, if a little disjointed, and the music was beautiful and haunting while the game on the whole was just soaked in atmosphere. Combat was one of the main reasons why so many derpo journos panned this game and that's quite simply because they're fucking morons that ran in, hammering The Awesome Button® like they were playing Dragon Age 2, and got their asses handed to them.
Pfft
Solid 7/10, some more content, better *overall* voice acting, some improvements to animations/lip sync and this could have scored higher. All in all, if anyone enjoyed Mars then I have no doubt they'll enjoy this one, Spiders took what made Mars so good (setting notwithstanding <3 ixi) and improved on it. Dat Mithras!

That doesn't seem to make sense .. Valve makes about the same off the shady russian traders. Not only do they get 30% of the Russian sale, but they also get 15% off the TF2 keys sale and 100% of the original key sale. Also this Key system plus Russian prices keeps people buying on steam who might go elsewhere. Valve no doubt loves the gray market they created.
This game released yesterday doesn't seem to have a region lock, so I don't think Valve is forcing this.

Yeah, you *can* but it's not recommended to go *solely* for magic, your MP drains quite quickly (even at maximum level) and certainly won't be enough to carry you alone through the game. Concentrate on some melee skills first and, like deadseasquirrel said, daggers are just amazing. Easy mode to be honest, since Warrior/sword is just too damned slow, heh. I finished the game at Lv26 with almost all the Dagger tree filled out, two thirds of the Flame and no skills in Warrior.

@Bob Barnsen
Don't worry, you level fast and frequent at the start and then it stretches out quite nicely for the rest of the game. I reckon it's to help offset the high difficulty of combat - and yes, you can adjust difficulty on the fly.
