But I'm kinda starting to see it differently. It's like the people behind the show are winking at the audience - and they expect us to just go with it.
Personally, I think it would have been a thousand times more interesting if they'd made it truly dark and plausible - but then again, Hannibal just isn't a character that could ever be plausible and retain his appeal. I doubt that, anyway.
Instead, I'm enjoying it as a dark comedy with great aesthetics.
Loved that last episode, the beginning was a bit slow but the final act had tremendous momentum. Gotta admit, one of my favorite aspects of the series this season is Will and his dogs. I'm okay with the gruesome horror in the series, but if anything happens to Lester, I think I'm gonna need a shrink.
Yeah I loved the episode as well. Even though I agree the plot for this season doesn't seem to be as solid as in S1, the atmosphere, style, and quality performances are still there. And those last 2 scenes in the episode, fantastic
Nothing wrong with making a dark comedy like that, but I think it's disrespectful to this particular material, which was never meant as comedy.
But there's nothing new about exploiting quality for cheap entertainment.
If he's uncomfortable treating this material seriously and derive entertainment from it, then maybe he should have taken that as a clue. Maybe he should just leave it alone and go do his own thing.
a part of his sophisticated and elegant plan to capture Hannibal. I'm pretty sure Freddy is alive and well , and just hiding ..which is a shame tbh lol
But hey, Clarice would be a better choice for a lifetime companion for Hannibal anyways than that tripping dude
is the reporter still alive and helping will to catch hannibal? So hannibal is letting his guard down and I fully expect season 3 pretty much resembling the situation of silence of the lambs with hannibal behind bars and as an advisor
Yeah, it's pretty obvious that Will is trying to bait Hannibal by pretending to be a killer like him. But since this is part fantasy, it's hard to tell what's real and what's not. It seems a huge departure for Will to actually kill people just to manipulate Hannibal, so I'm kinda thinking some of what appears to be happening is to deceive the audience along with Hannibal. But I guess we'll see. It still manages to entertain, though it's getting extra ridiculous for each episode. Also, Mason Verger was a huge letdown in terms of acting and personality.
I hope they didn't go full retard and this is all a ruse (starting with Chilton's death which I'd like to think never happened) as some have pointed out. I hope so, because that's the only thing that makes sense considering the prior events of the season.
Fantastic episode. This game Will is playing (excellent acting by Dancy btw), a very dangerous one
I think the meat was human, but it was...
Spoiler:
Randall Tier's. And if it wasn't, Hannibal would have known immediately and Will would have brought it to dinner knowing that Hannibal wasn't going to be fooled. Maybe he's trying to hurt Hannibal's in his self-pride, so he can be prone to make a mistake.
Dangerous game indeed
EDIT: I couldn't avoid to mention, great distinctive performance by Michael Pitt! Very creepy!
That was more like it, very solid episode back to the usual Hannibal awesomesauce. It ignited all my curiosity. (although I have my -predictable- theory too, which we all share it seems )
Loved it. Michael Pitt and Katharine Isabelle quickly becoming my favorite thing of the 2014 season. Also, anyone catch the newspaper clipping of Gillian Anderson in Freddie's apartment? I need to find the episode in 1080p so I can investigate the contents of the article closer.
Good episode, even though the non-patient/doctor conversations (dinner, etc.) between the two leads were a bit annoying knowing that Hannibal wasn't being fooled at all (Will knows this).

What what Alana was shown supposed to be a surprise reveal?
For her, yes. I loved how Will messed with her head almost the whole episode long
He's not messing with Hannibal's head though, that's for sure, but I think he's distracting him from something else
