Tropico 5

Return to the remote island nation of Tropico in the next instalment of the critically acclaimed and hugely popular ‘dictator sim’ series. Expand your Dynasty’s reign from the early colonial period to beyond the 21st Century, facing an all-new set of challenges, including advanced trading mechanics, technology and scientific research, exploration and for the first time in Tropico history – cooperative and competitive MULTIPLAYER for up to 4 players.

The Eras - Start your reign during colonial times, survive the World Wars and the Great Depression, be a dictator during the Cold War, and advance your country to modern times and beyond. From the 19th century to the 21st, each era carries its own challenges and opportunities.

The Dynasty - Each member of El Presidente’s extended family is present on the island and may be appointed as a ruler, a manager, an ambassador or a general. Invest in the members of your Dynasty to unlock new traits and turn them into your most valuable assets.

Research and Renovate - Advance your nation by discovering new buildings, technologies and resources. Renovate your old buildings to more efficient modern buildings.

Advanced trade system and trade fleet - Amass a global trade fleet and use your ships to secure trade routes to neighboring islands or world superpowers, both for export and import.

Explore your island - Discover what lies beyond the fog of war. Find valuable resource deposits and explore the ruins of ancient civilizations.

All new art - All artwork has been re-designed from scratch to provide Tropico 5 with a unique visual identity. Choose from over 100 buildings from each of the individual eras.

Cooperative and competitive multiplayer – Up to 4 players can build up their own cities and economies on any given island map. Players can choose to share resources, supplies and population or declare war on each other.

If you purchase it right now on Steam you'll get Tropico 4 Special Steam Edition + Free DLC + Omerta - City of Gangsters for free. Looking forward to the multiplayer part (I know I'm probably one of the few Smile).

With some additional trading. The cheapest you can get it is by opening a 4-pack (6 keys I think).

Not entirely sure how multiplayer is still working, is it two players on the same island?

That's what I gathered from the above trailer.

I was really hoping for, at least in co-op mode, that we'd each be given our own island and be allowed to trade resources/experts via ship and be able to "visit" our friends island in an observer capacity. Two players on the same island is bound to run into space issues. Looks like they kinda half-assed it.

We'll see, I don't mind on the same island at all, but this trailer doesn't say much imo.

That is sort of how I envisioned it, kinda like SimCity 5 but not shit. There's be two mapmodes that you could cycle between, local and world, the latter in which you could designate troop movements and such, send resources, perhaps even airdrop lots of flyers in an attempt to sow dissent among your f(r)iend's citizens. But they indeed seem to have gone about it in a pretty half-assed way. I'm hoping that there will be much larger maps...

So just a recap on the video above (and Silent_Lurker, please correct me if I'm wrong seeing as how you've played the beta) -

-Massively simplified customization options (both visually, and in terms of passive "perks"). Yes, you can have 6 presidentes now instead of just one due to the dynasty feature, but the perks list looked extremely meager compared to Tropico 4. There were less than half a dozen.

-Massively simplified voter factions. When he pulled up that Almanac it looked like his voters were split into 2 groups - Economic and Church/State. The economics had Capitalist vs. Communist and the Church/State had Militarists vs. Religious. So 4 voter factions vying for affection rather than the dozen or so Tropico 4 had.

I'm not going to lie - I pre-ordered this a while back on GMG for $27 - and it still looks pretty damn good, it's just a shame they've cut so much complexity out of it. Sad

But as TB said in video, are they going to introduce what has been cut via DLC in the future? Going by their track record, this is highly possible.

Tropico 4 was really just Tropico 3, with a few tweaks here and there, until Modern Times came along.
