Is the guy in the bottom screenshot the same guy in the top screenshot? If so, sucks to be him.
I'm installing the game right now, can't wait to play it, just finished FEAR last night, am about to finish Black and White 2, only played the first few levels of Serious Sam 2 so far, then I still have Farenheit, Area 51, Mega Man X8, Evil Dead Regeneration, and Freespace 2 to finish up as well.
Good thing I don't have school or a job.

I double-click on quake4.exe
I see the Quake 4 logo.
I see the grey screen and then... ERROR "Quake 4 must be closed" doesn't specify what kind of error.
I'm going to reinstall right now...

Try block Quake4.exe with you firewall.
If you haven´t allready done it?
Or just cut the internet connection.

Darth_26, what's your specification? OS, VC, CPU, RAM?
Just play the game for the first few minutess, and it felt nothing like Doom. It's a faster pace game and you're not alone.
If you hate it, ignore it.

Can someone tell me how to manually set antialiasing. Everytime i go to set it in video options it tells me Q4 needs to be restarted for the settings to take place, but when i restart the game the AA is set back to 'NONE' i looked in the Q4cfg. file but i didnt see an AA option.

If you have nVidia use driver profile for quake4.exe and set the AA there..

I have ATi, is there problems with this game and ATi cards? I have the latest drivers, but this seems more of a game issue because it wont keep the AA settings, and now it seems everytime i start the game the thing is telling me it needs to use "safe" settings to start up with? WTF!?!?

So far this game is WAY too similar to Doom 3. I'm not that far into it, but like most shooters these days, I don't think I'll be compelled to finish it.

This game is a another over hyped pieceof crap very boring same as unreal 2 and doom 3, graphics look very cheap, i think doom 3 looked alot better, this looks like a streched version of doom 3, i have justed had a look at the multiplayer maps they look no different to quake 3, my opinion not good!

I hear ya never finished doom3, Fear and I won't get quake 4, I can't stand run and gun its gets boring like 10min...its a shame because the games looks gorgeous |

be careful, this public server patch is suspicious by itself (DEV permission for this unknown group?, exe packed by aspack...), and i was said it's the virus W32/Sdbot.worm.

Runs like a pregnant cow on my system while it's smooth as silk on lesser machines which tells me I've either got a driver problem, or the game is buggy in some way.. Probably something on my end though.
spec:
Athlon64 3200+ @ 2.5Ghz (running stable for 8 months)
1Gb RAM (2*512)
Gainward GeForce 6800GT (390/1100, perfectly stable)
X-Fi Platinum
I've tried most things, running latest gfx-drivers (81.85), disabled soundcard completely, changed every setting I could find, deleted the cfg-file and let Q4 create a fresh one, tweaked the cfg-file, killed most services & processes running that's not critical etc. etc.
Yet, people with Geforce FX-cards (and radeon 9x00's) and older cpu's get silky performance @ 1024*768 at medium with most things set medium/high...
VERY frustrating... So until they've released a patch or someone have found out why some people get crappy performance (I've even tried 640*480 with exactly the same crappy framerates) I won't bother.
