I guess it's how you interpret tone as to whether people are being unreasonable. Like all the backlash to not liking this show; I perceived it as humorous tbh.

I find it all but impossible to evaluate "tone" online - so I generally go by what the words being used mean.

I must be the only one who didn't bother with this show.
I tried a few episode of S1 and there was way too many characters to keep track of and I couldn't bring myself to care for any of them. Gave up since then.
no doubt, he is a great character, well written and thought out, with all his strenghts and weaknesses, but its just a sad fact that he wasnt cut out for survival in that kind of world.
btw, these videos are awesome and give alot of insight into the many characters, this one specifically house stark:
i recommend watching her videos, they are great and cover most of the lore and background story.
When Littlefinger meets up with his now-wedded Lysa Arryn, she drops a stunning nugget on the home audience (if not Littlefinger himself): she was the one who poisoned her ex-husband Jon Arryn, the former Hand of the King, and it was Littlefinger who was the brains behind that murder. "You gave me those drops and told me to pour them into Jon's wine, my husband's wine. And you told me to write a letter to Cat telling her it was the Lannisters—" Lysa says before Littlefinger aggressively makes out with her to get her stop talking (castle walls have ears, after all; even fearsome, impenetrable mountain castles).
To appreciate the importance of this admission, think back to the first season. The Hand of the King Jon Arryn suddenly dies in the first episode, so King Robert comes to Winterfell to ask Ned Stark to come to King's Landing. The Starks then get a letter from Lysa Arryn saying that the Lannisters poisoned Jon, making Ned suspicious. Ned becomes Hand, begins looking into the circumstances of the former Hand's death, and discovers the truth of Jaime and Cersei's incest. He calls out Cersei for being illegitimate, and gets his head chopped off in the attempt. Quite literally every single thing in Westeros is set into motion from the death of Jon Arryn. A death that, we now learn, was masterminded by Littlefinger.
Of course there's a few things that could not have been caused by
Spoiler:
Littlefinger's actions, like King Robert dying by a Boar, Or Joffrey becoming an incompetent sadistic monarch. Or the menace of the White Walkers.
Yeah, Littlefinger is by far the slimiest, smarter and most lethal guy in the show. He's like a walking masterplan of shadiness. (Gillen even changed his intonation lately in order to make it sound more "evil").
Loved the episode, some scenes made me genuinely laugh (The Hound and his one liners <3)
His first mission is to find the two swords and reforge Ice. It'll be a cool side-story. Tyrion will join him on this quest because he is Sansa's husband now and feels he needs to be on her late father's good side. Then they'll raise an army and re-take/re-build their city in the North and Tyrion and Sansa unite the North and take King's Landing. Then they'll march with King Tyrion's forces to the wall to fight the Wild Folk (tm) and the Zombies (r).
Ice is made of that special kind of steel and Sean Bean will be the one to stab pretty much everyone so that they stay dead permanently.
When that's done they travel to Daenerys and kill her. The end. The Starks and Lannisters rule in harmony because Tyrion's a good guy and Sansa doesn't know what is up or down but she's not going to kill Tyrion as long as she doesn't have to make love to him. They'll adopt a few kids instead, ok? Ok.
Not only is the guy playing him seriously overacting with the most ridiculous "sneaky" voice - he's also the one character that would have been killed first if there was any consistency in that world.
He takes the most obscene chances with how he treats people and talks to them, just like Tyrion should have been slaughtered long ago.
They're obviously just favorites of Martin - and as such, are spared because his harsh sadistic writing isn't consistent on any level.

the thing is, littlefinger has a shitload of money and influece, people of high standing know this hence they wont fuck with him, giving him alot of freedoms.
well, except for cersei, she threatened him in s01, but thats because cersei is dumb, impatient and knows even less than jon snow.

It's not about money, it's about status in that world. That much has been made clear.
Anyone of a higher standing could kill him and suffer absolutely zero consequences. Whether that's smart or not, is another matter. But the world is full of morons - and the fact that Littlefinger hasn't been slaughtered ten times over is simply writer favoritism.
That's my claim, anyway
I'm not saying it's impossible to be lucky - but the guy is supposed to be a genius - and a genius would NEVER depend on luck.
it is about money in the end, the west of the continent with all its ore and minerals is what made the lannisters rich and helped them to higher status in the first place.
if you havent noticed, tywin is slowly shitting himself due to the large debt he has with the iron bank of bravos, now tywin is smart and knows that his status as hand of the king of westeros and lord of house lannister wont help him getting out of that one.

I don't know the history of the Lannisters - but Tywin is smart and Littlefinger acts like an idiot.
The Tywin we see in the show has a high standing AND money (used to, anyway) - if he only had money, he'd have to be very careful and smart - which is probably what he used to be. Though, again, I don't know the history.

its very interesting, only need to watch that first part for tywin´s history.
too bad they dont go into this in greater detail in the show.
Why would anyone kill Littlefinger? The only threat for him in King's Landing would be the Lannisters, except they need money to keep their power. And who takes care of the money? That's right, Littlefinger and everyone knows that. He secured all these loans from Iron Bank IIRC.

You don't remember his interactions with Ned Stark and Catelyn, for instance? Are you saying they wouldn't have the power to deal with him? I can't agree.

they would attempt it because they are honour-bound and blind, all the starks are so righteous and naive that they tend to lose their heads as a result, even rob.

Catelyn, not so much.
My point is that it's a very dangerous gamble and there's no reason to speak like that to people in power.
But, whatever, it's just my perception of the character. Maybe it's just the show and the actor - and maybe he's more plausible in the books.
I have to agree i found it a bit silly once Littlefinger and Lysa started to reveal what they've done. The show has ridden itself of many unimportant characters, and now we have a lot of obvious plot shielded characters, and it's getting more and more apparent that this isn't a living world where nothing is set in stone as George said himself, many characters are shielded from dying. Last second rescues, etc.
