I got robbed in my own home last night. 4 armed robbers entered my home and held up me and my girlfriend for about 45 min. In the end they got spooked by something and left running. The "only" took some cash, gold jewelry my girlfriends phone and my phone.
It sucks to live in Venezuela now. The police is fucking useless and clueless. No help from them. I'm so fucking pissed angry scared I don't even have words now. Just needed to blow of some steam.

Sorry to hear that, it didn't happen to me but close ones have been victims here as well... must be a terrible feeling. Given the situation, I guess you really should be glad it was just some money and "small" items, it could be a lot worse.

Ive seen videos of robbers squeezing into windows with bars (5 inches apart each bar) and even opening then with car jacks.

Thank you guys for your response. To answer how they got in I was just watching a movie and the door and windows where open (it's always hot here). They do had to climb a wall to get in though. No idea what got them scared running but I'm glad they did because it could have ended so much worse if they didn't.
There are usually only two outcomes with a home invasion here you get beaten and tied up or you get killed.

Try putting glass shards on top of that wall and stick'em with cement, it's how we do it.
I don't think you can get lucky twice in this sort of thing so I'd prepare well

In DR we have seen everything, spike wires? they use towels to cover them, Glass with cement? Towels or cartboard boxes, boots, etc.
They have all the tricks covered.
Personally i dont know how to protect a house other than alarms with sensors in all windows and guns on the bed with many magazines.
Luckily i live in an apartment, 4th floor, so getting in is virtually imposible. No roof access so fuck them, its a residential, so its closed up, no easy access. And the door, i dont open the door to ANYONE.
Best of luck mate.

Oh man, this is terrible. It could have gone (much) worse knowing their modus operandi, but it's still a trauma that scars you and ruin your serenity for a while which fucking sucks . Try not to think about it anymore, even if it's hard.. best of luck miragui.

Thank you all for your kind words, I really appreciate it. I'm taking measures to increase protection. It's not legal to own guns here in Venezuela. It's ironic I know. So that's not an option.

Hmmm kind of envious of that.... here we have rampant guns, legal and illegal, thieves have a shit load of guns all with serials grinded off.
Its a fucking nightmare... but then again, i imagine myself at home, being broken into, no gun, thieves have a gun or knives.... kinda unfair... but then you have guns, they have guns, you have guns. I dont know which one is worst....

One of the few privileges of being broke as fuck is that nobody bothers to even think of robbing you.

One of the main reasons I'm staying in my apartment, is because I live on the top floor (third floor) and three of the 5 others in my apartment are unemployed and usually stay up until 2-3am. Impossible for any burglar to break in and make it all the way down without one of them noticing. Even armed robbery would be hard to pull off.
But yeah, it sucks when you can't feel at ease about your own stuff and security - best and only thing you can really do, is keep your valuables hidden and leave a small amount in "standard" locations so, if they break in, they find the small amount and won't tear your place apart looking for more. It's a trick a friendly police officer I know gave me a few years back. Also if you got expensive stuff around the house that is easy to take, be sure to either engrave it, or put it in your bedroom. The days where they ran off with TVs is pretty much gone - they go for small stuff now and stuff like DVD players and crap aren't worth the effort. Cameras, mobile phones, iPods, that's where the real money is.

if you are not able to use one, it could be more dangerous than the invaders.
i would stick with increasing "security" with alternative methods like the others said (the glass trick is brilliant and easy to do), but i don't know the living there in venezuela, so i really don't know what would be the best for you.
btw, i'm happy to see that both of you got through this without a scratch, that was a very dangerous situation.

Alarms should be used, really using the sensors in the correct ways and using motion sensors. Set them up efectively and that damn loud siren will scare anyone out, that a very good investment.

Glass shards on the wall are not an option because due to the political situation you can't get any cement. I installed infrared barriers instead. I will install some motion sensors inside.
@Firemaster I'm nowhere near rich, it's just a nice house in a nice location.
@Lopin18 Guns are illegal but it's estimated there are 13-15 million illegal weapons in Venezuela. So it kind of sucks you can't own one to legally defend yourself.

that is horrible... Good thing they didn't do anything to You or Your gf (its terrible to even think about that)
and 45 minutes ?!
I wonder how one could protect himself... Home is virtually impossible to protect without huge ugly bars, alarms and huge metal locks on door.. but then it looks even more inviting to those guys.
I guess apartment on like 10th floor seems most safe? Then only good doors and locks are needed.
Although I live on 10th floor (top) and I had some thievery. We used to leave shoes outside of the door and they got stolen couple of times... but thats nothing compared to armed robbery.
Sometimes I am afraid that if someone really wanted they could come in from the roof
edit: I fucking hate thiefs, robbers adn that kind (ofc rapers and killers too). I cannot get into mind of those people. I could not hurt even a fly... I work hard for everything and live slowly... its hard to imagine fuckiers jsut barging in and stoling years of hard work.
