|
 |
What the title says, do you think owning a great quantity of games actually take something away from the pleasure and interest that you find in gaming?
Since the moment that I turned into a "legit" gamer and started purchasing all my games, I've found that with times, the more games I owned, the less engaged I felt with them,
I'm now at a point where I own 1005 Steam Games, and approximetely another 100 games between blizzard, uplay, origin, desura and even some console ones, and I rarely play a game, it start to feels more like an obligation than leisure.
Does anyone else with large libraries also relates with this feeling?

I had it for a brief time and my girl still has it.
Trick is to devote yourself to a few games. What I usually have installed is: a lenghty game, medium lenght game, casual game, some kind of racing game. I only allow myself to install a game after I finished one.
It seems to do the trick with me finishing more games and actually playing more. Try to get the feeling of having to play every game that is still in your backlog Most of the time I can forget I have a huge gaming library and that eases the disconnect feeling with what you are playing atm.
Hope it helps in your case

That's the thing, I have applied a similar method, but for some reason it's not working.
To give you an example, for quite some time I've had installed Battlefied 4, Osmos, Antichamber, Solar 2 and Assetto Corsa. But for some reason, I haven't find the interest to play any of them, instead I always end up either on Chess.com playing live matches or recently I spent 2 consecutive weeks playing the web game 2048 and also some of it's variations.

It's normal, people lose interest in things over years. But also develop interest in new things.

I have exactly this problem at the moment. I can only seem to really get interested in newly released games. Too much choice but a lot of mediocrity too. When I play a game I play it to strike one off the list. Yet I still keep buying games thinking 'I would like to play that'. This must be some kind of disease.

The fact that you went legit in my opinion doesn't really affect what you're experiencing, this is just a moment in your life where you don't feel motivated enough to play, and it happens.
I'm immune to this (thankfully?), since I constantly keep 30-40 games installed at the same time here (golden oldies, new ones, doesn't matter as long as they're good), a decent percentage of them legit, and the others coming straight from the eyepatch'd black market..and I really adore switching from a game to another, like in a severe form of gaming OCD. But in the end, I always manage to finish -and enjoy- them, it's just a matter of time. Mine is an addiction, but it makes me feel good so.. yay, I guess.

This! Since I have some time now, I tried gaming a bit... Just doesn't feel like it used to. Dunno, maybe I don't play enough good games, but I just cannot get 'hooked' like I used to.

nope , it does not turn you away ... the thing about it is, you compare things... and well when you see a better product... you play the better thing and lose interest for the other thing...
this behavior is normal for the most gamers, out there and thats how business works ,
the trick now is to use dirty tactics on the user... to lure him back ... oh a re-edition of the same shit ... oh a GOTY EDITION ... WITH FIXED resolutions .... oh the SAME GAME BUT NOW IN HD .... OH now it works in WINDOWS 10 .... oh a BUNDLE WITH DLC .... oh A 4K DLC GOTY EDITION that now is DRM FREE ON GOG
as for myself ...when i see my backlog ... I set a goal , 2k games till this year for my backlog must be done ...and just play them one at a time ... from the oldest to the newest or random ... for every gen i own ... and i own a lot of systems and all games for them
to explain it more , when you own to much you get a sensory overload ... its like when you see thin BIG PILE OF DIRTY DISHES in your sink and say to yourself ... ughmm it will take to much time to wash them and its gets bigger and bigger ... but when you go to clean them you only realize there where only 7 dirty plates and 15 eating utensils
just do it like this , start small ... install a product and check it out for 30 to 40 min , if you like it go with it to the end ... if not delete it or give it away ... and so on

Not sure it's having too many games or if I just hit a snag and lost interest (haven't played a single game since I bought Bioshock: Infinite that I started but stopped playing very early) but I don't play games anymore. No idea why, I'm just not attracted to gaming at the moment (and haven't been since Bioshock: Infinite was released).

its the power of hype , the illusion of wanting ,
it happens ... when the next big ass advertisement will happen ... you open the news BAM in the face ... go to XYZ shop POW in the face with adds
then people will talk about it
then jurnos will derp it like it will be the coming of chirst
and
you will be playing that

Yes. Definitely!
I have so many now, I'm spoilt for choice (legit or otherwise). I'm lost as to where I start, seriously. I wish one game was released every year, and that's it. Too much now, so little time.

I don't know how the amount of games I have bought would make a difference, I just have better things to do. I can't devote hours of my week to gaming anymore, I wouldn't even want to.

I only think it shows you how much "shit" is actually out there on the market. Makes you appreciate the good stuff more.
So, no, it doesn't, if you're a passionate gamer.
And I play the games I buy.
